Ansan Italian restaurant with highballs: scallop anchovy oil pasta

In short

That Man's Italian Restaurant & Lounge is a Western restaurant on the 6th floor of the Dongwon Building in Jungang-dong, Ansan, Gyeonggi. On a Saturday afternoon visit, the order was scallop anchovy oil spaghetti, lamb chop steak cooked medium rare, and pink peach and blue lemon highballs, enjoyed beside the sunlit full-height windows with an outdoor terrace alongside. The oil pasta is listed as spicy but barely is, and the lamb chops carry no gamey smell, so That Man's suits a date or an anniversary dinner.

Restaurant entrance decorated with a chandelier and large plants

Walking from the elevator toward the restaurant, the entrance itself was so nicely decorated that it caught my eye. A fancy chandelier paired with big green plants gave off a classy feel even before stepping inside. I especially noticed the blue sign reading "Best Restaurant in Ansan" at the entrance, and it built up my expectations haha. It's a clean, sophisticated vibe, so if you're looking for a date spot, you'll love it from the entrance alone.

Full-height windows and the outdoor terrace: what the room feels like

Inside, That Man's Italian Restaurant & Lounge has marble floors and gray-toned interiors paired with floor-to-ceiling windows. Walking in, the shiny marble floor and gray interior blended together cleanly.

Above all, sunlight poured in through the big windows, making the whole space bright and pretty. During the day you get a warm, cheerful atmosphere for a meal, and in the evening the view through the windows turns into a more romantic night scene 🌃 So the vibe really changes depending on whether you come for a lunch date or a dinner date.

And there was one space at That Man's Italian Restaurant & Lounge that I especially loved — the outdoor terrace! It's decorated like a lush green garden, which is surprising to find in the middle of the city 🌿 Colorful flowers were in bloom and the floor was laid with a wooden deck, making me think it'd be wonderful to eat here on a nice day.

It offers a completely different vibe from dining indoors, so I imagine the terrace seats get popular during the nicer seasons.

There's also group seating and private rooms for those who want a more private meal, plus baby chairs are available, making it good for families too. Coat hooks were provided as well, which was nice for keeping outerwear and belongings tidy.

What we ordered at That Man's, plus the bread that comes first

After some deliberation, we ordered That Man's Italian Restaurant & Lounge's best menu items — scallop anchovy oil spaghetti, medium-rare lamb chop steak — along with a pink peach highball and a blue lemon highball to drink alongside the meal.

Warm pre-meal bread served at the table

After ordering, we waited a bit, and the pre-meal bread was brought out first.

The bread came out warm, which was great to nibble on before the main dishes arrived. The bread itself was mild and nutty, so picking at it alongside the highballs made the wait for the main dishes fly by haha.

Finally, the food we ordered arrived. With the colorful highballs and the delicious-looking dishes filling the table, it lifted my mood just looking at it haha.

How spicy is the scallop anchovy oil spaghetti?

The scallop anchovy oil spaghetti is a spicy oil pasta flavored with scallop meat and anchovy. It says spicy on the menu, but when I actually tried it, the spice level wasn't strong at all. I started with the scallop anchovy oil spaghetti.

Oil spaghetti topped with scallop meat

I don't usually eat oil pasta much, so I didn't expect much, but it was surprisingly delicious. I thought a "spicy oil pasta" would be fairly hot, but it wasn't nearly as spicy as I expected.

Instead, the umami from the anchovy blended nicely with the deep flavor of the oil, making it the kind of dish where you keep reaching for another bite.

Best of all, the scallop meat was soft and plump with a chewy texture that paired really well with the pasta. The zucchini was really tasty too.

Medium-rare lamb chop steak: any gamey smell?

Next, the lamb chop steak! We asked for medium rare, and it came out cooked exactly to the doneness we wanted, and delicious.

The outside was golden and crisp while the inside was juicy and moist. Lamb often has a gamey smell that some people dislike, but I barely noticed any of that here.

The meat itself was tender and juicy, so anyone who loves lamb chops would probably be satisfied.

It also paired well with the grilled vegetable garnish served alongside. Taking a bite of the meat with the grilled vegetables added a light, savory contrast that made it even better.

Pink peach highball vs blue lemon highball: which to pick

The pink peach highball had a sweet, subtle peach aroma, while the blue lemon highball had a sharper, more refreshing taste that cleansed the palate between bites of food. The highballs we ordered to go with the meal were gorgeous just to look at. The two flavors were distinctly different, so it's worth picking based on your taste.

The pretty colors especially made for great photos alongside the food, giving the whole table an even nicer look 💕
