Boiled pork half plate at a Gangnam Korean restaurant: Sinju Okmi

In short

Sinju Okmi Gangnam Branch is a 24-hour sundaeguk (blood sausage soup) and suyuk (boiled pork) restaurant on Teheran-ro 10-gil in Gangnam, Seoul, near the Gangnam Tax Office. The order was a half plate of freshly boiled pork and the Myeongin Sundaeguk suyuk set: Sinju Okmi uses domestic pork slaughtered the same day and boils it four times a day, so the meat came out tender and the soup arrived with a rich broth and generous fillings. With free parking, baby chairs and a self-serve banchan bar, Sinju Okmi Gangnam Branch suits solo diners and families with young children alike.

What the Sinju Okmi storefront looks like

Exterior of Sinju Okmi Gangnam Branch near the Gangnam Tax Office

Sinju Okmi is a Gangnam Station sundaeguk restaurant located near the Gangnam Tax Office. It's close to both Gangnam Station and Yeoksam Station. Coming from Gangnam Station, take Exit 3, turn left at the Krispy Kreme alley, and walk about 300 meters. Coming from Yeoksam Station, take Exit 3, go straight to the Hana Bank Gangnam branch, turn left into the alley, and walk 153 meters.

Entrance to Sinju Okmi Gangnam Branch on the 1st floor

It's on the 1st floor, so it's really easy to get to and easy to find. Parking is free, and if you use the valet it's ₩3,000 haha. It's hard to find a good restaurant near Gangnam Station with parking, so this was a big plus.

Banchan and the self-serve side dish bar

Basic side dish spread at Sinju Okmi Gangnam Branch

Neat, clean side dishes.

Cubed radish kimchi served alongside the soup

Just tasting that cubed radish kimchi alone gives you the feeling this soup is going to be good, hahahahaha.

Self-serve bar for refilling side dishes

If you run out of side dishes, you can grab more from this self-serve bar.

Kimchi varieties at the self-serve bar
Sauces and seasonings at the self-serve bar
A plate of side dishes gathered from the self-serve bar

True to a good Korean restaurant, the kimchi and sauces are all delicious ㅠㅠㅠ

Salt and other seasoning containers on the table

There's also salt and other seasonings right on the table so you can adjust the flavor to your taste.

A generous soup meal, great for solo dining

Being able to eat this well and this affordably near Gangnam Station is great — it's really good for solo dining too! Hahaha

Freshly boiled pork suyuk, half plate: domestic pork boiled four times a day

Half plate of freshly boiled pork suyuk

The suyuk half plate. This place uses domestic pork slaughtered the same day and boils it four times a day, and the freshness really came through — the meat was tender and really delicious.

Myeongin Sundaeguk suyuk set: how rich is the broth?

A bowl of rich Myeongin sundaeguk

The sundaeguk I'd been looking forward to. The broth was definitely rich and delicious, and the fillings were really generous too, so much so that this alone could fill you up.

A proper, piping hot sundaeguk done right.

Sundaeguk topped with perilla seed powder
Perilla seed powder stirred into the sundaeguk broth

You know that adding a generous amount of perilla seed powder makes it so much nuttier and tastier, right, haha.

Large sundae pieces in the sundaeguk
A spoonful of sundae and meat
Sundaeguk meat pieces with no gamey taste

The sundae (blood sausage) was really big and delicious, and the meat was tender with no gamey taste — really good.

A separate bowl of rice served alongside the sundaeguk
A spoonful of sundaeguk eaten with rice

I liked that the rice comes served separately rather than already mixed into the soup, haha.

Full table spread of the suyuk and sundaeguk set

If you're looking for a Korean restaurant or a sundaeguk restaurant near Gangnam Station, I definitely recommend giving Sinju Okmi a try!! Haha
