A Garak-dong recommendation: Hanyang Dak Kalguksu, a family meal out with the kid.

It's September 2026, a weekend lunch, and I suddenly craved a warm bowl of dak kalguksu (chicken noodle soup), so I took my kid to Hanyang Dak Kalguksu Main Branch in Garak-dong — here's the review. When you're out and about in Songpa-gu, sometimes you just need a place where you can eat comfortably with a kid, right? The tables here are spaced generously and they even have a baby chair and kids' tableware ready, so it was a nice spot for a family meal out :)

Where to park at Hanyang Dak Kalguksu Main Branch: 4 spaces out front, plus the hospital lot

There's parking for about 4 cars right in front of the restaurant, and if that's full, you can also use the nearby Gyeongchal Hospital parking lot.

The hospital parking lot was posted as 30 minutes free, so keep that in mind if you're driving over.
Is Hanyang Dak Kalguksu easy to visit with a child?

Let's go in.

We visited during weekend lunch and there were a lot of families and older customers. By the time we finished eating and left, the place was nearly full — it's clearly popular. Inside, the tables are spaced generously and there's a baby chair ready, so it didn't feel cramped even with a kid along.

At the self-serve bar there was extra kimchi, water, and kids' spoons and forks ready.

There was regular kimchi and spicy kimchi separately, so you could pick based on preference. The spicy kimchi was actually pretty spicy — I'd recommend it to adults who like heat, haha.
Ordering the extra-large suyuk set with gim topping for 22,800 won
Let me show you the menu.

So we could share with our kid, we ordered the chicken noodle soup suyuk set with gim (seaweed) topping in extra-large, and my husband picked the chicken noodle soup with green onion topping.
- Chicken noodle soup, green onion topping: ₩10,900
- Chicken noodle soup suyuk set, gim topping, extra-large: ₩22,800

The suyuk set arrived first, and the nutty aroma of gim hit me right away.

The noodles were chewy, and maybe because it was the extra-large, the portion was really generous. Even after sharing with my kid, it was more than enough to fill us up.

Best of all, my kid ate the chicken noodle soup really well, which made my husband and me happy too :) When your kid eats well on a meal out, the whole meal goes so much smoother, haha. And then there was the suyuk that came with it.

The suyuk (boiled meat) was cooked plainly, which paired well with the noodle soup. Topped with garlic, chili, and dried radish strips, it was clean-tasting but with added savoriness, so I kept reaching for more. And then my husband's order, the green onion topping chicken noodle soup.
Gim topping or green onion topping: which chicken noodle soup to order

My husband's green onion topping chicken noodle soup looked a bit plainer than the gim version, but the broth had a sweet green onion aroma added in, giving it its own appeal.

If you're eating with a kid, the gim topping seems like the better fit; if you like green onion flavor in your noodle soup, the green onion topping is the way to go.
