Siheung Janggok-dong BBQ with chicken gizzard: Daehwa Sutbul Garden
In short
Daehwa Sutbul Garden Siheung Janggok Branch is a charcoal-grilled beef restaurant on the first floor of the Yusung Hanuel First Park apartment shopping arcade in Janggok-dong, Siheung, Gyeonggi. On a Thursday evening two friends ordered the Gyeongju-style fresh marinated beef rib set and grilled marinated beef ribs, chicken gizzard meat (dak dogani-sal) and handmade sausage, then finished with market-style knife-cut noodles and ice cream. Daehwa Sutbul Garden was nearly full even on a weekday night, and the ribs marinated through to the center and the first taste of chicken gizzard meat were the most memorable parts.

A few days ago I went out to Janggok-dong, Siheung with a friend and found a Janggok-dong gem!!!!! There's a restaurant called Daehwa Sutbul Garden, and the marinated beef ribs were amazing!! I already love pork and beef, but marinated beef grilled over charcoal — how could that not be delicious~

Where is Daehwa Sutbul Garden Siheung Janggok Branch, and what is it like on a Thursday night?

Daehwa Sutbul Garden, a Janghyeon-dong favorite, sits on the first floor of the Yusung Hanuel First Park apartment complex, and even though we went in the evening there were tons of customers. If it was this busy on a Thursday night, I imagine there's a wait on weekends or Friday nights!
When there's a wait, you write your name, party size and phone number on the waitlist. Out front there were photos of the signature dishes, and they looked so appetizing.

What comes with the Gyeongju-style fresh marinated beef rib set?
When you walk in, a friendly staff member shows you to your table — each table has a tablet you can use to order, or you can look at the separate paper menu instead. There were lots of main options — beef rib meat, diced flower cut, kkeuti cut, chicken gizzard meat, chicken heart-lung meat — plus sides like sweet shrimp, gamtae (seaweed), snow crab stew, yukhoe (beef tartare) and a whole plate of sea urchin.
We ordered the restaurant's most representative dish, and the one we'd been wanting — the Gyeongju-style fresh marinated beef rib set. This set comes with chicken gizzard meat, handmade sausage, market-style knife-cut noodles and even ice cream, so it felt like the perfect lineup from main dish to side dish to dessert.

Side dishes, the self-serve bar and seaweed soup at Daehwa Sutbul Garden
Once you order, they set out the standard banchan (side dishes), and there was a great variety. Potato salad, napa cabbage kimchi, gungchae, baek kimchi (white kimchi), pickled garlic scapes, pickled chili, gat kimchi, geotjeori — every single one paired well with the meat. Whoever makes the banchan clearly has a good hand, because even the kimchi dishes were perfectly seasoned and delicious.

They also bring tortillas for wrapping meat, plus geotjeori and seaweed soup. Since this is a beef specialty restaurant, the seaweed soup was loaded with thick, generous pieces of beef, and the meat was so tender even inside the soup!! The broth was rich too, so I kept eating spoonful after spoonful.
If you run low on banchan there's a self-bar you can help yourself from, but they gave us so much to begin with that we didn't need to get more!! The self-bar was kept really clean too, and staff kept checking on it, so hygiene was nothing to worry about.

How the charcoal-grilled marinated beef ribs tasted
After ordering and chatting over the banchan for a bit, our Gyeongju-style fresh marinated beef ribs arrived. On the sides were the chicken gizzard meat and handmade sausage, and in the middle was the marinated beef rib meat, piled high with garlic!

Once the grill heated up over the properly lit charcoal, we started grilling the beef and sausage — the charcoal here is really good~ The heat wasn't too strong or too weak, and the meat cooked gently and evenly, already looking so appetizing..!

We ate the gently charcoal-grilled marinated rib meat by dipping it lightly in salt, with geotjeori, and with a bit of wasabi too — the marinade soaked all the way through and the meat was so tender that it was delicious even without extra sauce or sides!

We also grilled the tortillas lightly over the charcoal, topped them with meat and sauce, and took one big bite — grill it briefly and the tortilla stays soft, grill it longer and it turns crispy, so you can do it however you like! It's a different kind of appeal than wrapping the meat in lettuce — the nuttiness of the tortilla meeting the juicy beef felt like eating a whole new dish.

Chicken gizzard meat (dak dogani-sal): what a first bite is like
After grilling the beef for a while, we grilled the chicken gizzard too — since it wasn't thick, it cooked quickly. Cooked gently over the charcoal, it never burned on the outside; the outside turned golden while the inside stayed nicely tender.
Looks appetizing, right?!?! I think this was my first time trying chicken gizzard — the outside was crisp and chewy while the meat itself was tender, a perfect beer snack. Great texture, and the more you chewed, the better the flavor got.
In between, we kept grilling the sausage too, and kept the beef going constantly so the flow of eating never stopped!

We'd push the nicely cooked marinated beef rib meat to the side and eat it piece by piece. Whenever the grill plate looked like it was starting to burn, a staff member came right over and swapped it out, so we never had to ask ourselves — that made things easy. Because they kept swapping the grill plate, we could eat the marinated ribs without any burning.
The beef went so well with both the baek kimchi and the pickled garlic scapes! You might not be able to tell from the photo, but the inside was left slightly undercooked so it stayed tender — full of juice, with such a good charcoal aroma.

Market-style knife-cut noodles and ice cream to finish
Partway through, we ordered the noodles included in the set. You can ask for the noodles at the same time you order the meat, or in the middle of the meal — we wanted to eat them more like a dessert, so we ordered them when we were nearly done with the meat. They came out in a big pot, generously portioned, with a refreshing broth that had us scooping up spoonful after spoonful! Slurping down the zucchini and noodles together, then taking a sip of broth, felt like a hangover cure even though we hadn't been drinking!!!

After the noodles, we ordered the ice cream dessert included in the set — vanilla ice cream topped with cornflakes and red bean, and honestly this was better than patbingsu (shaved ice dessert)~ The milk ice was great too, but vanilla ice cream could never be bad!! Even full, I kept eating more hahaha
If you're looking for a Janggok-dong restaurant, Daehwa Sutbul Garden seems like a solid choice! The set menu is really well put together, the beef is fresh, and the marinade is delicious, so it works well for dinner and also as a good pairing with drinks~
