Jeonju snack shop with katsuo octopus fritter takeout: Munkkocchi
In short
Munkkocchi Mungangjeong Jeonju Hanok Village Branch is an octopus skewer and octopus fritter stall on Eunhaeng-ro in Jeonju, Jeonbuk. A cheese octopus skewer and a katsuo octopus fritter, taken back to a nearby guesthouse, showed two different sides: the fritter was crisp outside and chewy inside with bonito-flake flavor, while the cheese skewer combined springy octopus with rich, savory cheese. At 5,000 to 6,000 won a stick, Munkkocchi is an easy snack to grab when hunger hits while walking Jeonju Hanok Village.

Hi everyone, it's Gukmamseul again ·͜·

Walking around Jeonju Hanok Village, so much street food catches your eye. Among all the options, this time I checked out Munkkocchi Mungangjeong Jeonju Hanok Village Branch, one of the famous food stalls in Jeonju Hanok Village.

It's a place that sells both mun-kkochi (octopus skewers) and mun-gangjeong (octopus fritters), so the menu caught my eye as I walked by. Being able to have chewy octopus with various sauces and cheese was interesting enough, but I was also super curious about eating chewy octopus as crispy fritters.

Munkkocchi Mungangjeong is a great street snack to enjoy simply in Jeonju Hanok Village, and there was a good range of menu items to choose from depending on your taste.

Munkkocchi menu and octopus skewer prices
The octopus skewers include katsuo octopus skewer, mala octopus skewer, cheese octopus skewer, and more, and there are also chicken skewer options — teriyaki, mala, and cheese. Prices run about ₩5,000 to ₩6,000 for the octopus skewers ·͜·

There's also a cool beer slushy and house-made sikhye (sweet rice punch) to enjoy alongside the tasty skewers and fritters. Before ordering at the kiosk, there are food models displayed nicely, which makes choosing really easy ·͜·

Outdoor tables and the natural cheese on the label
Next to the store there are tables set up, so you can enjoy freshly made warm snacks while catching a cool breeze! Munkkocchi Mungangjeong also had ingredient explanations posted — they said they use natural cheese with over 99% mozzarella content instead of frozen cheese, and use certified processed chicken skewers and octopus skewers.
Even though it's street food, it was nice to be able to check details like that. Gukmamseul ordered the cheese octopus skewer and the katsuo octopus fritter!

It's such a nice option to grab one and eat when you get hungry walking around Jeonju Hanok Village, with no real burden to it.

Cheese octopus skewer and katsuo octopus fritter, eaten back at the stay
I resisted the delicious smell all the way back to the accommodation and tried them together there. The cheese octopus skewer and katsuo octopus fritter each had their own distinct charm, so it was fun to have both to choose between 🖤

What does the katsuo octopus fritter taste like?
First, the katsuo octopus fritter! The fritter is characterized by a crispy outside and chewy inside, topped with a tasty sauce and bonito flakes that made it look delicious from the start. The bonito flakes swaying on top add an extra layer of flavor.ᐟ
It's crispy at first bite, then turns chewy inside, and with the sweet sauce added, it kept me reaching for more. It's also easy to eat in bite-sized pieces, so it's great for sharing among a few people.
What does the cheese octopus skewer taste like?
The cheese octopus skewer combines chewy octopus with savory cheese, so the texture alone was interesting from the first bite. The octopus's characteristic chewiness blends with the soft, savory cheese, and with the sauce drizzled on top, it felt much richer than a plain octopus skewer.
With the cheese in particular, it was salty yet savory, making it a great snack. Eating it warm brought out the softness of the cheese even more, and alternating bites of octopus and cheese made for a surprisingly good combination.
Is Munkkocchi worth a stop for a Jeonju Hanok Village snack?
If you're looking for a simple snack after a meal in Jeonju Hanok Village, or something to enjoy while walking around, Munkkocchi Mungangjeong is worth a stop. Next time I visit Jeonju Hanok Village again, I want to try the other octopus skewer menu items one by one. Already looking forward to it 🫶🏼🫶🏼🫶🏼
