Soft tofu in rice noodle jjamppong at a Seooreung Chinese restaurant

I wanted to introduce a place I visited the other day in Seooreung, Goyang. The sky was clear blue without a single cloud, the weather had turned cool, and I was getting hungry — so Chinese food came to mind. That's how I ended up at Jjamppong Jijeon Seooreung Branch, well known as a Seooreung go-to spot.

This is actually a regular spot for me since it's close to home, and I've been quite a few times. Each visit I try a slightly different menu, which is half the fun. It's already known for jjamppong, but this time I ordered something a little different, haha. Let me give you an honest review of how it tasted.

Parking and the room at Jjamppong Jijeon Seooreung Branch

Jjamppong Jijeon Seooreung Branch has a lot in front that fits about 30 cars. The first thing I noticed the moment I arrived was how huge the parking lot is 😄 Parking is always a worry when eating out, but here I had zero concerns and parked with total ease. Inside, the space is wide and pleasant, with tables set well apart.

It's an open kitchen, so you can watch the cooking happen, which makes the wait more entertaining.

You can feel the restaurant's determination. The self-serve bar is well stocked too, so you can help yourself to side dishes and rice easily. The staff are always friendly, so every visit feels pleasant. On weekend evenings there can be quite a few customers, so there's sometimes a short wait.

Jjamppong Jijeon already has a wide range of standard dishes, but with unusual items like rice noodle jjamppong on the menu too, it's genuinely fun just browsing the menu, lol. Great for families to order a bunch and share — I always end up debating what to get every time.

How does rice noodle jjamppong with soft tofu taste?

I took a first spoonful of the rice noodle jjamppong broth, and it was genuinely rich and thick. Not the usual clear jjamppong broth — this style hits you with deep, intense umami right away!

Maybe because of the added soft tofu, it was also incredibly savory 🥹 When the spicy, thick broth meets the tofu, it comes together into something heavenly.

The rice noodles themselves were good too, nice texture, so I kept going back for more, haha. They have a different charm from regular wheat noodles, so I'd recommend this to anyone who likes rice noodles. With broth this rich, finishing the whole bowl didn't feel heavy at all.

Crab fried rice: the one letdown

The crab fried rice looked great, but eating it, I was a little let down — there was barely any crab meat texture to bite into, so it fell a bit flat there. The flavor itself was fine, but I couldn't help wishing they'd added a bit more crab or some other substitute ingredient. Still, the rice grains were fried up nice and fluffy, so overall it was a decent dish.

What makes jjamppong fried mandu different?

And then the jjamppong fried mandu! I was curious why it's named that — turns out it's because the filling itself is spicy. It was spicier than I expected, which actually meant the usual greasiness of fried mandu was totally absent. Crispy dumpling skin with a spicy filling inside made this an addictive little side dish, lol.

It's a great stop after a walk around Seooreung, or a fine destination for a meal on its own. It's a spot better suited to visiting by car than public transit, so the ample parking was especially reassuring, haha.

Unlimited rice refills and the self-serve drink bar

What was genuinely great here was the unlimited rice refills. You can just scoop as much as you like from that rice cooker.

I mixed some rice right into the rice noodle jjamppong broth, and honestly, that was a real treat, haha. With such a thick broth, once it mingles with the rice, I polished off the whole bowl in no time, lol.

After the meal I tried the coffee, hot chocolate, plum tea, and omija tea, and they were all delicious — it felt like dessert was fully covered too 😄 Being able to enjoy all this on top of just paying for the meal made it feel like great value.

While paying, I noticed quite a few famous celebrities have apparently visited too. The combination of rice noodle jjamppong and soft tofu, which I tried for the first time this visit, really stood out to me. If you're looking for a Seooreung restaurant or a Goyang restaurant, I recommend Jjamppong Jijeon Seooreung Branch — there's a clear reason it's known as a jjamppong specialist, lol. I'm definitely going back. Next time I want to try the spicy level of the signature jjamppong.
