In short
Old Gyeongseong Sundaeguk Pyeongtaek Jije Dongsak Branch is a gukbap (rice-and-soup) restaurant on Mosan 1-gil in Dongsak-dong, Pyeongtaek. Eating alone, the writer ordered the spicy boiled-pork gukbap and seasoned it with salted shrimp, salt and cheongyang chili, finishing almost all of the broth, then refilled kimchi, kkakdugi, cucumber peppers and onion from the self-serve bar. What kind of restaurant is Old Gyeongseong Sundaeguk in Dongsak-dong?
Old Gyeongseong Sundaeguk Pyeongtaek Jije Dongsak Branch is a gukbap place on Mosan 1-gil in Dongsak-dong, Pyeongtaek. I was searching for good Pyeongtaek gukbap and wanted a proper bowl of warm soup, so I went to check it out.
As the weather starts to cool down a little these days, I somehow keep craving hot gukbap. Especially at lunchtime when I want a filling meal, nothing really beats gukbap.

This place was easy to get to and the interior was kept nice and clean, so it was comfortable to eat here. The owner was also friendly, which made my first visit feel welcoming.
The location is good too, so I'd say it's a solid choice for anyone looking for somewhere to eat nearby — especially if you're around Dongsak-dong and trying to decide on lunch, it's worth checking out as a Dongsak-dong lunch spot.

Sofa seats and an easy atmosphere for eating alone
The interior at the Dongsak branch was bigger than I expected, which surprised me right away. The tables weren't crammed together and the whole place felt clean and comfortable.
Best of all, there was sofa seating, so it was much comfier than places with hard chairs. It felt relaxed enough to eat alone without any pressure, so I imagine a lot of solo diners come here too. It seemed like a great fit for people like me who enjoy properly treating themselves to a good meal even when eating solo.

What is on the self-serve banchan bar?
The self-serve bar had everything from kimchi and kkakdugi (radish kimchi) to cucumber peppers and onion. You could refill as much as you wanted, no hassle.
I love piling on plenty of kimchi and kkakdugi when eating gukbap, so this self-serve bar was a very welcome sight.

How did the spicy boiled-pork gukbap taste?
What I ordered was the spicy pork soup with boiled pork. The broth looked spicy just from the look of it, and it really was — sharp and hot but also clean and refreshing.
It wasn't just spicy for the sake of being spicy; the broth itself was so clean-tasting that my spoon kept going back in. There was plenty of boiled pork inside too, which went great with the rice — putting a piece of meat into the hot broth felt like a properly filling meal.

Seasoning the broth with salted shrimp, salt and cheongyang chili
Part of the fun of gukbap is adjusting the seasoning to your own taste. I added a bit of salted shrimp, salt and cheongyang chili bit by bit until it suited my palate.
Adding the cheongyang chili brought out even more of that spicy kick, which personally made it taste even better. In the end I barely left any broth behind and finished the whole bowl.
The rice portion was also really generous, which I appreciated. They give you a lot of rice here, so it was a filling meal. It definitely gave me the feeling of a proper, satisfying meal.

Other menu items and ingredient choices at Old Gyeongseong Sundaeguk
Looking at the menu at Old Gyeongseong Sundaeguk Pyeongtaek Jije Dongsak Branch, besides the spicy pork soup they also serve sundaeguk (blood sausage soup) and bone soup. If you usually like sundaeguk, you can pick according to your taste, and the bone soup seems like it would suit broth lovers too — I'm planning to try the other items next time.
I especially liked that you can order with just organ meat if you prefer. Everyone has different preferences when it comes to gukbap ingredients, so being able to customize your order like this was a nice touch.
So for anyone searching for good Pyeongtaek gukbap who wants to choose their preferred ingredients, whether meat or organ meat, this could be a solid option. And if you're near Pyeongtaek Jije Station looking for a hearty Korean meal, it's worth stopping by. Gukbap is great to eat solo, and just as easy for a group where everyone picks their own dish.

Who this Pyeongtaek gukbap restaurant suits
I'm personally a gukbap lover, so finding a place like this always makes me happy. It's a place you can visit without any pressure on a day you want to eat quietly alone, and it's just as good when you need a filling lunch.
If you're looking for a Dongsak-dong lunch spot, a hot bowl of gukbap here would hit the spot. The owner was friendly and the space was clean and spacious enough to feel comfortable, plus you could freely refill banchan (side dishes) at the self-serve bar — altogether a satisfying meal.
