We took public transit and walked from Pyeongtaek Station. Honestly, when we arrived out front we paused for a second wondering 'is this the right place?' because you have to walk past the kitchen to reach the dining hall inside.

Looking through the menu, there were so many options I wanted to try, like the solo-diner Pyeongtaek Jumulleok set (₩10,000) or the fiery, generous honghae-tang (spicy seafood stew, ₩12,000).

Midway through, there was a brief serving mix-up and the restaurant's signature griddle jumulleok ended up on our table by mistake — the pan rim was ringed with crisp cabbage and the portion of meat looked far more generous, an overwhelming visual from the start. It was a bit of a shame once we realized it had been served to us in error.

Duck jumulleok: taste and spice level

The duck jumulleok in the duck mixed cold noodle set was stir-fried to a clean, mild flavor with no gamey smell, chewy, and got more savory the more you chewed. The spice level was moderate — about as spicy as Shin Ramyun, I'd say.

Gochujang jumulleok: how it compares

The gochujang pork jumulleok came piled high. The seasoning had soaked deep into the meat and paired beautifully with the onions — perfect as a side to rice. Both meat dishes were excellent, but if I could go back in time and order again, I think I'd order gochujang jumulleok across the board!

How much cold noodle comes with each set?

The water-based cold noodle included in the set came in a generous slushy broth with sliced radish and quail eggs. I actually assumed it would be a mini cold noodle since it was part of a set, but the portion was surprisingly generous.

Rice balls and 1L homemade sikhye

The rice balls (3pc) we added as a side were bigger than I expected, which was a nice surprise — since the sets don't come with rice, they were great as a rice substitute to soothe your mouth whenever the jumulleok got too spicy.

The homemade sikhye (1L) we drank after the meal came in a pouch container, and it tasted exactly like old-fashioned sikhye. Since Pyeongtaek Jumulleok does a lot of delivery, I imagine that's why it comes in a pouch, but for people eating in-store, it would be more convenient served in a bottle.
