Pyeongtaek pollack roe stew lunch in Dongsak-dong: Sokcho Halmae
In short
Sokcho Halmae Dongtae-tang Pyeongtaek Jije-dongsak Branch is a pollack stew restaurant on Mosan 1-gil in Dongsak-dong, Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi. On a cool day the lunch order was dongtae-tang (pollack stew) and altang (pollack roe stew) together, eaten in turn with rice: the dongtae-tang broth tasted clean and refreshing rather than spicy, while the altang added the nutty richness and texture of the roe. For a filling soup-and-rice lunch, Sokcho Halmae Dongtae-tang is a good place to order both dishes and share.

I was looking for a good pollack stew place in Pyeongtaek and found Sokcho Halmae Dongtae-tang..!!

Why look for a soup lunch in Dongsak-dong, Pyeongtaek?
Sokcho Halmae Dongtae-tang Pyeongtaek Jije-dongsak Branch is a pollack stew restaurant on Mosan 1-gil in Pyeongtaek-si, Gyeonggi. As the weather's been getting cooler, I keep craving warm soup dishes. For lunch especially, I don't want anything too heavy or too spicy — something with broth that I can eat with rice and feel properly full. So this time, while looking for good restaurants in Pyeongtaek, I ended up at Sokcho Halmae Dongtae-tang.

When you search for restaurants in Dongsak-dong or near Pyeongtaek Jije Station, there are plenty of meat and noodle places, but sometimes you just want a proper meal with hot broth and a bowl of rice. That day we were debating what to have for lunch and decided to try dongtae-tang and altang together. Sokcho Halmae Dongtae-tang is, as the name suggests, known for its dongtae-tang, so it was exactly what we wanted. Eating the hot broth with rice at lunchtime made for a really filling meal.

How is the dongtae-tang broth at Sokcho Halmae Dongtae-tang?
The dongtae-tang at Sokcho Halmae Dongtae-tang comes out bubbling in a pot. I tried a spoonful of the broth first and it was clean and refreshing — good to eat alongside rice. I think the broth is the most important part of dongtae-tang, and just looking at it, it felt properly warm.

You could really taste the clean, mild flavor of the pollack, and as the ingredients' flavors blended into the broth I kept reaching for another spoonful. It wasn't a style that relies purely on spiciness — the broth itself was easy and comfortable to eat. The pollack meat went well with rice too. Putting a piece of pollack on a spoonful of broth and eating it with rice made for such a filling meal that I barely needed side dishes. With hot broth, the rice went down naturally too, and I felt glad I'd chosen this for lunch.

Ordering altang too: eating both stews in turn
We also ordered altang at Sokcho Halmae Dongtae-tang. Altang had its own charm, different from dongtae-tang. With the roe in it, the texture was great, and the savory flavor of the roe added to the broth meant switching back and forth with the dongtae-tang never got old.
If you love soup dishes, you might have a hard time deciding between dongtae-tang and altang — personally, I think ordering both and sharing them is a great option. The charm of altang really came through when eaten with rice. Having the roe with the warm broth, then a spoonful of rice, made for a lunch that left nothing to be desired.
