Eating alone in Seomyeon: a bowl of galbitang at Gang Galbitang Seomyeon

Gang Galbitang Seomyeon is a galbitang (short rib soup) and galbi gukbap (rib soup with rice) place in Bujeon-dong, Busanjin-gu, just a 5-minute walk from exit 11 of Seomyeon Station. I found a spot perfect for whenever a galbitang craving hits, so let me introduce it! The vibe is super comfortable for eating alone too, so I'd highly recommend it to anyone looking for a solo-dining spot in Seomyeon, Busan.

When the food arrived, the ribs were genuinely bigger than I expected, with plenty of meat still on the bone, so pulling it apart was really satisfying! The broth was clean yet deep, absolutely perfect for mixing with rice. Anyone stuck on what to eat for a solo lunch near Seomyeon Station, take note.

Especially good: a spoonful of rice with the tender rib meat, topped with crunchy kkakdugi — the combo was pure art. The basic broth was already very satisfying, but they also have a spicy version, so next time I visit solo I'm definitely trying the spicy galbi gukbap, a Bujeon-dong gukbap specialty!

The menu board at Gang Galbitang Seomyeon

Among the Bujeon-dong gukbap menu at Gang Galbitang, you can also add galbi noodle soup or jungmyeon noodles, with a double portion of glass noodles available. Galbi noodle soup apparently comes with a mini bowl of rice too. Beef shank sukyuk (boiled sliced beef) — that sounds amazing too, ㅠㅠ

I only tried the plain galbitang, but they also sell a spicy galbitang and spicy galbi gukbap, so there's plenty of menu variety!

You order by browsing the menu on the kiosk. These days it's almost always kiosk or tablet ordering! The galbitang comes with rice included — no need to order it separately!

I stopped by Gang Galbitang Seomyeon, the Bujeon-dong gukbap spot that's perfect whenever you're craving a warm, comforting Korean soup in Seomyeon! This time I ordered the basic galbitang, and — the basic bowl had so much broth and the ingredients looked huge, so I added jungmyeon noodles separately. Glass noodles were already mixed in! A piping hot galbitang!! Looked so delicious — it's one of my all-time favorite foods!

A serving of galbitang with added jungmyeon noodles

When it comes to 'best gukbap spot' in Seomyeon, Busan, Gang Galbitang Seomyeon is the first place that comes to mind for me now. The moment I took a sip of the broth, I could immediately tell — 'ah, this was honestly simmered for a long time' — that deep flavor really came through. The meat portion was generous and the quality so good that I had zero complaints the whole meal. When you crave a meaty soup the morning after drinking, I'd call this a legit hangover-soup spot in Seomyeon too.

The tender chunks of meat are pretty big too! Using the tongs and scissors, the meat peels off the bone easily... Served on a tray like this, it looks neat and tidy.

The jungmyeon noodle portion was a bit much for me, so I used the small plate to portion some out... This is a great spot not just for office workers' lunch, but also for a hearty meal after a stroll through nearby Bujeon Market. When it's chilly these days or you're feeling a cold coming on, a warm, rich broth like this comes highly recommended!

A full spread with rice and side dishes alongside the galbitang

It comes out as a neat, full spread!! Loved it. There's even a piece of ginseng in there?!!!! The meat was really tender and generous, so mixing it into a bowl of rice made for a properly filling meal, haha. Even the noodles inside had a nice chewy texture — impressed. The broth truly has that deep, honestly-simmered flavor, and the meat quality is so good I had no regrets the whole meal! The layout also makes it easy to eat solo, so I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a solo dining or solo drinking spot in Seomyeon, and it also makes a satisfying meal after a walk through Bujeon Market.
