Raw fish with soju near Gyeongseongdae Station, Busan: Sintongyeong
In short
Sintongyeong Gyeongseongdae Branch is a raw fish restaurant in Nam-gu, Busan, close to Gyeongseongdae·Pukyong National University Station. The meal started with a full banchan spread before the chewy, fresh sashimi arrived, best eaten alternating between chojang (vinegar-chili sauce) and soy sauce with wasabi, and seasonal seafood and rice dishes like hoedeopbap (raw fish rice bowl) round out the menu for anyone wanting a full dinner rather than just drinks. When you're craving fresh sashimi near Gyeongseongdae
Today I'm sharing my review of Sintongyeong Gyeongseongdae Branch, which I visited because I was craving fresh raw fish around the Gyeongseongdae area.
The Gyeongseongdae·Pukyong National University area has a lot of students passing through, so there are tons of restaurants and bars around. But this time, more than anything else, I really wanted fresh sashimi, so I looked around for a raw fish restaurant and ended up at Sintongyeong. If you're wondering where to go for sashimi near Gyeongseongdae, this might be worth checking out.

Location and atmosphere of Sintongyeong Gyeongseongdae Branch
Sintongyeong Gyeongseongdae Branch is located in Daeyeon-dong, Nam-gu, Busan, and it's close enough to Gyeongseongdae·Pukyong National University Station that getting there by public transit was pretty convenient.

The restaurant has a relaxed overall vibe, so it felt good for grabbing a drink with friends but also easy enough for a regular dinner.

Ordering and the basic table setting
We took a while deciding since we wanted to try a bunch of different menu items together. But when you're at a raw fish restaurant, the sashimi itself is what you're most looking forward to, right? Haha.

While waiting for the sashimi, we started with the banchan (side dishes) that came out first. It's nice to have things to nibble on between bites of raw fish instead of just eating sashimi alone — kept the meal from feeling boring.

How was the sashimi's texture and taste
And finally, the sashimi we ordered arrived! The first thing I noticed as soon as it came out was how good it looked.

Freshness is really the most important thing when eating raw fish. I picked up a piece and the texture was chewy with a clean taste. It was good dipped in chojang, and also good with a bit of wasabi mixed into soy sauce, so you could enjoy it different ways depending on your preference.

Personally I like sashimi that's not too thick or chewy but has just the right thickness with a lively texture, and what we had that day was easy to eat without feeling heavy. And naturally, eating sashimi like this makes you want a drink of soju lol. It seemed like a great match for anyone near Gyeongseongdae wanting raw fish with soju.

They also have seasonal seafood and meal options
Sintongyeong has more than just the standard sashimi menu — there are also various seasonal seafood dishes, so it's worth checking what's in season when you visit. Seafood especially changes depending on the season, so next time I'd like to order whatever's in season then.

They also have hoedeopbap and other meal options, which are essential when eating sashimi, so it looked like a good place to visit even if you're not drinking and just want a meal. If you don't want to stop at just sashimi, adding a meal option makes for a more filling finish.

Would I recommend it as a Gyeongseongdae·Pukyong sashimi spot?
Overall, the meal was satisfying. If you're near Gyeongseongdae·Pukyong National University and wondering where to get sashimi, Sintongyeong Gyeongseongdae Branch is worth considering. It's a good place for a relaxed drink with friends and also works well as a dinner spot when you're craving raw fish. And being close to Gyeongseongdae·Pukyong National University Station is a real plus for accessibility!
Whenever I want sashimi in Busan, I usually think of the coastal restaurants first, but I liked that you can enjoy raw fish comfortably near Gyeongseongdae without having to go all the way to Gwangalli or Jagalchi.
