Haeundae Chinese restaurant stone-plate jajangmyeon: Songjeong Dol Jjamppong

In short

Songjeong Dol Jjamppong is a Chinese restaurant across from Songjeong Beach in Haeundae, Busan. We had the level-2 stone-plate jajangmyeon set with glutinous-rice tangsuyuk and mapo tofu, and the sauce-soaked scorched rice with green-onion kimchi was unforgettable. Verdict: a generous, welcoming choice for a family meal or date.

Songjeong Dol Jjamppong across from Songjeong Beach, with parking

I visited Songjeong Dol Jjamppong, a great spot by Songjeong Beach in Busan where you can stir scorched rice and a bowl of rice into stone-plate jajangmyeon and jjamppong!

Songjeong Dol Jjamppong is open daily from 11:00 to 21:00, with a break from 15:30 to 17:00 and last orders at 20:00. Parking in front is free, and there are Naver reservations, group seating, separate restrooms for men and women, Wi-Fi, takeout, high chairs, and a microwave. You can also join the waitlist through Catchtable.

Songjeong Dol Jjamppong guest information

Known for its stone-plate jajangmyeon, stone-plate jjamppong, and tangsuyuk (Korean sweet-and-sour pork), Songjeong Dol Jjamppong is right across from Songjeong Beach. Take bus 185 to Gwangeogol Stop, and it is behind Nakbuljip! There is a free parking lot right in front, which was so convenient!! 👍 There is also space for around two cars to the right of the entrance, for your reference.

The interior was very spacious, bright, and clean. There were lots of tables, so it looked great for groups, and plenty of high chairs were ready too. I was surprised by how many guests around my parents' age were there!! It has appeared on TV several times, so I was even more excited, haha. There may be a wait at mealtimes, especially lunch, so I think it would be good to check Naver Reservation or Catchtable and put your name down in advance!

Ordering the stone-plate jajangmyeon set and mapo tofu

The menu has a wide range of Chinese dishes, from spicy stone-plate jajangmyeon with chili pesto to stone-plate jjamppong, white jjamppong, menbosha (fried shrimp toast), glutinous-rice tangsuyuk, mapo tofu, and dumplings. You can add octopus or whole squid too. They also have Yantai highballs and ades, which looked nice to have alongside the food!

There were two of us, and this is what we ordered. The set menu comes at a discount, so I recommend ordering it as a set! 👍

Basic sides for the stone-plate jajangmyeon meal
Green-onion kimchi and basic sides at the self-service bar

The basic sides were cool water, danmuji (pickled yellow radish), and onion with chunjang (black bean paste). You can request ice on the tablet too. Refill any sides you run out of at the self-service bar—and they had green-onion kimchi! 🤍🤍 The seasoning was so good, so you absolutely have to bring some back to your table.

A sign said they do not prepare food ahead of time but make it as orders come in, and I was drawn to watch the wok work. I had never seen it before, so I filmed it because it was fascinating. The machine did the early-stage work like that, then the chef came over to finish it. I think it is a great machine that protects both the chef's wrist and the flavor!!

Wok cooking prepared to order

After around 10 minutes, the stone-plate jajangmyeon came out. They told us it is best to wait a moment for the jajang sauce to soak into the noodles on the sizzling plate. The moist noodles, colored as if the sauce had soaked right in, looked so appetizing!! The aroma was incredible 🤤

Sizzling stone-plate jajangmyeon

There were so many noodles that it would be good for three people, or two big eaters. It was wonderfully generous, loaded with quail eggs, shrimp, squid body, squid tentacles, cabbage, and onion! You can choose level 1, 2, or 3 for the stone-plate jajangmyeon when ordering, and we chose level 2, the regular heat. It had just the right spicy kick, but they also give you spicy chili powder if you want more heat, so sprinkle it on to taste!!

The tangsuyuk and sauce came out together, and there was so much that I almost checked whether we had really ordered the small size!! 👍 Songjeong Dol Jjamppong is so generous with portions—that was such a plus >.< The coating was interesting because it had a bit of a pork-cutlet feel. Yet it was even crispier and chewier, with dense pieces fully packed with meat and no hollow gaps, making it such delicious tangsuyuk. The sauce was lightly sweet and tangy, really waking up the appetite and pairing beautifully with it!! 🤍

The jajangmyeon and tangsuyuk are delicious together, but with green-onion kimchi, they are the best!! 🤍 I already love green-onion kimchi so much that I think I brought back two plates, haha. You know how perfectly it goes with jajang sauce, right? ㅠㅠ!! I want to come back again just for the green-onion kimchi.

Mapo tofu loaded with big pieces of tofu

The mapo tofu came out next. I was surprised to see it piled high in such a huge bowl. Can you see that it was almost the same size as the stone plate!! 👍 There was so much generously cut, large tofu, plus ground meat, garlic scapes, and garlic, so the texture was great too, haha. It was enough to share between two people, and only ₩13,000—such amazing value, honestly.

Generously served mapo tofu

I have been really into mapo tofu lately, so I ordered it, and it was so good. I did not think it was spicy, but my partner, who cannot handle spicy food well, said the heat crept up later and found it quite spicy! Just something to keep in mind, haha. (Even so, they kept eating because it was delicious!) It was also such a lovely combination with green-onion kimchi on top!! 🤤

Scorched rice and a free bowl of rice, too

There was nurungji (scorched rice) underneath the stone-plate jajangmyeon, and it had soaked up the jajang sauce so well—crispy and chewy, and so delicious! Add a little green-onion kimchi on top, and it still goes down even when you feel like you might burst >< Even near the end of the meal, steam was still billowing up, so I had to blow on it before eating! Being able to eat it hot right to the end was such a plus!! 👍👍

Scorched rice soaked in jajang sauce

When you order the stone-plate jajangmyeon, one bowl of rice comes free. Mix it into the remaining jajang sauce, and you can finish another bowl in no time. By this point I felt like I might burst, but with green-onion kimchi it kept going down so easily that I overate, hehe. I recommend ordering like we did if there are three of you!!

Restaurant desserts and microwave information

At the back of the restaurant, they had warm tea and yogurt ready, as well as a microwave for children's baby food!! 👍 It really showed the owner's thoughtfulness. We could not finish the mapo tofu and tangsuyuk, so we asked for takeout, and they packed everything so neatly and carefully that I was touched, haha—even the sauce!! Songjeong Dol Jjamppong was so delicious that I would want to bring my parents, and the staff were so, so, so kind that I left very satisfied. I recommend it if you are looking for a Haeundae date spot, somewhere in Songjeong for a family meal with your parents, a good Chinese restaurant in Songjeong, or a comforting meal after a night out!
