Songjeong Dol Jjamppong after a drive to Songjeong Beach

The weather was so nice for the first time in ages, so we went on a date-drive to Songjeong Beach. Driving along with the sea in view made all the stress that had built up just melt away, haha. The ocean really is wonderful whenever you visit. Just as we were getting hungry, we arrived at Songjeong Dol Jjamppong, which I had looked up in advance.

What are the parking and waiting areas like?

It is such a popular place that I was a little worried about parking, but its dedicated lot is spacious and easy to use. During peak hours, Naver reservations require a ₩10,000 advance deposit to prevent no-shows, so keep that in mind~~

Inside, there is a clean, comfortable dining room and a waiting area farther in. Even though it was past lunchtime, there was still a wait. There are seriously so many people~~ haha

Made-to-order dishes and self-serve sides

Songjeong Dol Jjamppong does not make food in advance; each dish is completed for each order, so there was a notice that cooking takes a little time. But for delicious food, I can happily handle this much waiting, haha.

We picked up as much danmuji (pickled radish), kimchi, onion, and other side dishes as we wanted from the self-serve corner, and after a short wait, the main dishes we had been waiting for finally appeared one by one. Be sure to get the scallion kimchi, haha.

Hot stone jajangmyeon that stays warm to the last bite, plus scorched rice

The first thing to catch my eye was the hot stone jajangmyeon, arriving appetizingly plated on a sizzling stone dish. Unlike regular jajangmyeon, its biggest appeal is that it stays warm until the end. The sauce had soaked deeply into the noodles, filling my mouth with rich savory flavor.

Use the scraper on the table to get every bit from the bottom of the stone plate and eat the nurungji (crispy scorched rice)~ It is such a special treat too! Steamed rice is free~ It was great being able to mix rice into the leftover sauce for a filling finish.

Crisp sweet-and-sour pork and shrimp-filled menbosha

The tangsuyuk (sweet-and-sour pork) that came with the set was the perfect example of crisp outside, moist inside. It was full of nutty meat juices with no unpleasant odor, so it was delicious on its own and even better dipped into the sweet-tangy sauce, haha. Compared with glutinous-rice tangsuyuk, it is extra crunchy~~

Lastly, the menbosha (fried shrimp toast) I had been looking forward to so much. Thick slices of bread were packed with plump shrimp, so every bite burst with bouncy texture and savory flavor. The combination of crisp-fried bread and moist shrimp was wonderful—I do not know how many times I said I was glad we ordered it, haha. Be sure to try the menbosha too!

A Songjeong Beach walk after the meal

After filling up on delicious food, we took a walk along the sandy shore of Songjeong Beach to help digest it—a perfect date course. It was such a happy, satisfying day: delicious food in a lovely setting and as much wide-open ocean as we could want. I definitely recommend taking a drive and trying the hot stone jajangmyeon, tangsuyuk, and menbosha~♡
