Yeonhwa-ri in Gijang is a place I visit often just for a drive with a sea view — it has that laid-back, small fishing village atmosphere that makes it nice to eat and then wander around slowly. This time, while looking for good restaurants in Gijang's Yeonhwa-ri, I booked a table at Yangsando Gijang Yeonhwa Branch through Naver Reservation. With its spacious parking lot and privately divided seating, it turned out to be a great spot for a quiet meal, whether that's a family lunch or a date.
Easy parking and a quiet room at Yangsando in Yeonhwa-ri, Gijang
Yangsando Gijang Yeonhwa Branch was easy to visit by car. Since a lot of people come to Yeonhwa-ri as part of a drive, parking matters more than you'd think — and I was glad to find plenty of space right in front of the restaurant.

There's also a small pond in front of the building. Unlike a flashy ocean-view restaurant, it gave off a calm, quiet feeling even before stepping inside.

What I liked most was the interior seating — each table was divided, so I didn't have to worry much about people at nearby tables. Compared to restaurants where you can see straight across the tables, having the space separated like this made it much nicer to chat and eat slowly. It seemed like a great match for anyone looking for a family meal in Gijang with their parents, or a quiet date spot in Gijang.
Yangsando's signature dish: the special hitsumabushi eel rice bowl

Yangsando specializes in hitsumabushi, the Nagoya-style eel rice bowl. This time I ordered the special hitsumabushi, which comes with more eel than the regular version — and from the moment it arrived, the eel was seriously generous. The eel covered the rice with no gaps, so it looked really hearty.

The eel was thick, chewy, and the slightly sweet sauce blended in naturally.

The side dishes that came with it were varied too — steamed egg, buckwheat noodles (memil), and salad — all good to pair with the main dish. Eating them in between bites of eel rice bowl really refreshed my palate, so I could enjoy it comfortably all the way through.

How to eat hitsumabushi three ways
What's fun about hitsumabushi is that you can eat one bowl in several different ways. The restaurant even has the three methods explained, so it's not intimidating even if it's your first time. First you taste the eel and rice on their own, then you add the accompaniments, and finally you pour broth over it — each stage brings out a slightly different flavor.
Is the sake-don worth it if you love salmon?

Even though this is an eel specialty restaurant, I really love salmon, so I chose the sake-don, a salmon rice bowl. It was more satisfying than I expected. First, the salmon was piled on generously enough to cover the rice completely. Each slice was also just the right size and thickness to eat well with the rice — too thin and you can't taste the salmon properly, too thick and it gets hard to eat, but this hit the sweet spot of savory flavor and texture.

Above all, it had a savory, fresh taste with no fishy smell, so I enjoyed it right to the last bite. Soy sauce and a small brush come with it, letting you brush a bit of sauce onto the salmon and adjust the seasoning to your own taste.
Why Yangsando works for family meals and quiet dates

Having visited in person, I can say the food at Yangsando Gijang Yeonhwa Branch was really delicious, and I liked the overall environment too. There's a spacious parking lot that makes driving there easy, a calm atmosphere with a small pond, and privately divided seating. The special hitsumabushi, loaded with eel, suited anyone wanting a hearty meal, and the sake-don I had was satisfying in both salmon quantity and flavor.
Busan's Yeonhwa-ri is a great place to slow down and rest while taking in the sea on a drive. If you want a quiet meal to go along with a visit to Yeonhwa-ri, it might be worth stopping by Yangsando, a well-known restaurant in Gijang's Yeonhwa-ri. It's somewhere I'd especially like to return to for a family meal with my parents, or as part of a Yeonhwa-ri date course.
