Bridal shower dewy glow makeup at a Hongdae salon: Today Makeup

With my wedding coming up, it feels like every time I meet friends lately there's some kind of event happening. This time we planned a bridal shower, so we all got dolled up in the morning to meet and take photos together. Since I wanted to take a ton of photos, I wanted proper hair and makeup too, so I went to Today Makeup, a hair and makeup salon near Hongdae.

Where is Today Makeup? A short walk from Hongik University Station

Today Makeup is about a 5-minute walk from Exit 1 of Hongik University Station. Since it's near hotspots like Hongdae and Hapjeong, it's perfect to stop by and get styled if you have plans in the area.

The session takes 1.5 to 2 hours. Since I had plans afterward, I booked ahead calculating exactly when the makeup would finish. I also liked that the prices were posted outside the shop — transparent from the start.

Walking in, the first thing I noticed was how neatly organized the interior was. Since you can get both hair and makeup done in one place, it felt professional overall, and the products and tools they used were clean too. Since this is the kind of place you visit for a special occasion, I loved that the salon itself felt so tidy.

I sat down, told them my schedule for the day and the style I wanted, and we got started! I mentioned it was a bridal shower day with lots of photos ahead, and that I wanted a look a bit more defined than usual but still sweet and dewy. I tend to look stuffy if the makeup is too heavy, so I prefer clean, natural skin with sharper, more defined eyes and contour that reads well in photos.

They built up the base step by step, then did the brows and eye makeup to match my face, and I ended up with exactly the look I wanted! On a day that matters, getting help from a professional really does cover the things you usually miss, or the parts you've always thought of as your own complex. After finishing, they even packed up the lip color they used for me to take home.

From the bridal shower to an evening date at Seokchon Lake

After hair and makeup, I met my friends for the bridal shower. Since I looked more done up than usual, my friends started snapping photos the second they saw me haha. We took a ton of photos during the bridal shower, and having gotten ready so nicely beforehand made the whole shoot feel even better.

The day didn't end with the bridal shower — in the evening I met my boyfriend and we went to Seokchon Lake in Jamsil. After a full day hanging out with friends, seeing my boyfriend felt like a totally different mood haha. Since I was already dressed up, we took a light stroll around the lake together.

From getting ready beautifully in the morning, to the bridal shower with friends, to a date with my boyfriend at the end — this was one of those days from my wedding prep that I think I'll remember for a long time.
