Seomyeon galbitang lunch before a Tongyeong trip: Gang Galbitang
In short
Gang Galbitang Seomyeon is a galbitang (beef short rib soup) restaurant on Saessak-ro in Busanjin-gu, Busan. Before setting off for Tongyeong, the writer stopped in at noon on a Saturday for two bowls of galbitang at 14,000 won each plus Jeju medium noodles for 2,500 won, eating easily at the bar seats built for solo diners. At Gang Galbitang the plain broth tasted cleaner and deeper before the dadagi (spicy seasoning paste) went in, so taste the broth first and season to your own liking.

Hello everyone !! It's Meokttayoung ><
This wasn't the day before my Tongyeong trip — it was right before departure! I wanted to fill up on something hearty first, and while thinking about what to eat, I suddenly got a craving for galbitang (short rib soup). Haha. I looked it up and found Gang Galbitang, known for great galbitang in Seomyeon, so I went straight there.
Cutting to the chase: this place delivered with hot broth and big chunks of rib. They also have great seating for solo diners, so if you're looking for a solo-dining spot or a hearty lunch place in Seomyeon, Busan, I'd recommend it. 😊
Gang Galbitang's location and parking — can you drive to Seomyeon?
Gang Galbitang is a galbitang restaurant on the 1st floor of 33 Saessak-ro, Busanjin-gu. It's open year-round but has a break time, so keep that in mind!

If you're driving, parking isn't much of a worry! The Blue Parking Lot right next to the restaurant offers 30 minutes of free parking, so we parked comfortably and walked right in. Seomyeon has a lot of places where you hesitate to drive because of parking, so having a lot right next door was really convenient.

Saturday noon atmosphere and solo bar seating
We visited around noon on a Saturday, and true to its reputation as a Seomyeon lunch spot, the place was packed. Being lunchtime, customers kept streaming in.
Inside there are regular tables plus solo bar seats on one side, good for eating alone. Since all the tables were full when we arrived, we sat at the bar seats, which actually turned out to be comfortable. It's a place where you'd feel no pressure coming in for just one bowl of galbitang alone, so it could be good for anyone looking for a solo-dining spot in Seomyeon, Busan!
Gang Galbitang menu and prices

Here's what we ordered.
- Galbitang ₩14,000 × 2
- Jeju thick noodles add-on ₩2,500

You order through a kiosk. The Jeju thick noodles caught my eye at ₩2,500, so I added it to just one bowl out of curiosity. Everyone... you really should add the noodles. Haha. Personally, it was a real delicacy.
The self-bar and basic side dishes — grab your own mu-malaengi and geotjeori
There's a self-bar on one side of the restaurant. Basic side dishes are brought to you at first, and if you run low, you can grab more from the self-bar.
When I visited, mu-malaengi (dried radish strips) and geotjeori (fresh kimchi) weren't served by default — they were at the self-bar instead. If you want these two, grab them from the start! The mu-malaengi was especially good, so I went back for more halfway through. Haha.

There's also a coffee machine, so it was nice to grab a coffee after the meal.

In front of the bar seats, water, salt, pepper, and red chili powder were all neatly set out.
🔥 The galbitang finally arrives!

This is what I ordered — galbitang ₩14,000 plus Jeju thick noodles add-on ₩2,500. It came out bubbling hot in a ttukbaegi (earthenware pot), so it looked great from the start.
The basic side dishes were kkakdugi (radish kimchi), peppers, garlic, and some larva-shaped side dish I couldn't quite name — haha — along with a dipping sauce for the meat. All the side dishes were pretty tasty overall, but kkakdugi with galbitang is really the best combo...!

The two side dishes we grabbed from the self-bar!
🥘 Clean yet deep galbitang broth
I tried the broth first, and wow... it was so nice and hot. It wasn't intensely seasoned but had a clean, deep flavor typical of classic galbitang.
I came here to eat something hearty before a trip, but this would honestly be great for a hangover cure too. The hot broth spreads through you, and one bowl leaves you properly full. So it's not just a good Seomyeon lunch spot — if you want a hot broth from the morning, it could also come to mind as a Seomyeon breakfast option.

Galbitang already comes with glass noodles by default, but adding the Jeju thick noodles gave it a totally different feel. Slurping noodles soaked in the galbitang broth ended up matching way better than I expected. At only ₩2,500 extra, it's not a big commitment, so noodle lovers should give it a try. I'll definitely add the thick noodles again next time!
🥩 The big rib chunks deliver too

There were about 4 big chunks of meat in the galbitang, from what I counted. The meat wasn't tough at all — very tender, easy to pull off the bone, and best of all, no gamy smell.
Pulling off a big piece of meat and dipping it in the accompanying sauce... it's just seriously delicious. 🤤 Some places have good broth but disappointing meat, but here the meat was excellent too, so overall satisfaction was high.

The rice portion is really generous too. Haha. The galbitang itself already comes in a good amount, and with plenty of rice on top, you end up seriously full after one bowl.
Mixing rice into the broth, topping it with tender rib meat, and adding a piece of kkakdugi on top... need I say more. ㅠㅠ
Let the glass noodles that come standard with the galbitang soak up plenty of broth, then slurp them up! With glass noodles, thick noodles, rice, and rib meat all together, it's a completely hearty lunch!

Taste the broth before adding dadagi
For reference, dadagi (spicy paste) is also available by the fridge. I tried adding a bit midway out of curiosity — if you like a spicier style, feel free to add it! But personally, I preferred the base broth before adding dadagi. The base broth itself is clean and delicious, so I'd recommend tasting the broth first before adding dadagi, then adjusting to your taste.
🎁 A review event is also running

When I visited, there was also a review event running — participating got you a hand cream. Since I already enjoyed the meal, why not get a hand cream too? Haha.
Meokttayoung's overall verdict
- Hot, clean galbitang broth
- Generous, big, tender rib chunks
- Jeju thick noodles as an add-on is a delicacy — highly recommend
- Bar seats good for solo dining
- Self-bar to grab more side dishes
- 30 minutes of free parking right next door
- Busy during weekend lunch hours
I visited Gang Galbitang wanting a hearty meal before my Tongyeong trip, and ended up more satisfied than expected! The broth was especially clean yet deep, and the meat was big and tender — I get why it's so busy at lunchtime.
It's comfortable to eat here alone and hearty enough for a full meal, so I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a solo-dining spot or a lunch spot in Seomyeon, Busan. Craving hot broth some day? How about a bowl of galbitang in Seomyeon? 🤍
