23,000 won wild chambok pufferfish set at Seomyeon's Busan Bokjip

In short

Busan Bokjip is a pufferfish soup restaurant of 25 years' standing on Seomyeon Munhwa-ro in Busanjin, Busan. The day's special — wild chambok pufferfish (ship-frozen) served as jiri, a clear soup — costs 23,000 won and arrives with pufferfish porridge, pufferfish fritters, salmon sushi, seasoned pufferfish skin and steamed egg. The clear chambok broth, packed with minari and enoki mushrooms, tasted clean and cooling rather than heavy, so Busan Bokjip is worth a second visit.

What comes with the 23,000 won wild chambok special

When you order at Busan Bokjip, the first thing that comes out is a warm pufferfish porridge with pufferfish pieces in it~~~ Having a warm porridge before the meal really settled my stomach.

A little while later, the side dishes were set out one by one. Kkakdugi (radish kimchi) and seasoned kkosiraegi (a type of seaweed) were plated neatly, which I liked. The kkosiraegi salad in particular had great chewy texture and freshness — I kept reaching for it, haha.

Order the wild champpok menu and you also get pufferfish fritters. Crispy outside, tender pufferfish meat inside — I'd love to order this as a single dish on my next visit.

On top of that, salmon sushi and seasoned pufferfish skin also came out.

Big, tender salmon sushi and the sweet-and-sour pufferfish skin salad — everything was already delicious before the soup even arrived.

Soft steamed egg served at the end of the meal

Finally, soft steamed egg came out too~~ For ₩23,000, you get more than just pufferfish soup — salmon sushi, pufferfish fritters, pufferfish skin salad and more — such a full, varied spread.

How was the wild chambok jiri — broth and fish?

A little later, the main dish of the day, wild champpok pufferfish soup, arrived!! A big earthenware pot packed full of champpok soup — it looked refreshing just from the visual~~

Clear champpok jiri soup topped with minari and enoki mushrooms

Packed with fresh minari and enoki mushrooms and bean sprouts, this champpok soup was refreshing from the first spoonful — a true find. We ordered it jiri-style, and it had a clean, cooling flavor without being spicy, the kind that anyone, young or old, would like.

There was also plenty of pufferfish in the pot. The pieces were large and meaty, so I was already getting full before even adding rice to the broth. The soup had both meat and offal, so you could try different parts. Also, dipping the pufferfish meat lightly in the sauce makes it even more delicious — worth keeping in mind.
