On the day I was meeting my nephew, I heard it was his second birthday, so I quickly went looking for a cake. He'd already had his birthday party, so I figured a lunchbox cake — something light rather than a big cake — would be perfect. Since you can even add a custom message, it seemed like a great choice for a small lettering cake.

The problem was that lettering cakes usually need to be booked a few days in advance. I only thought of it that morning, so I didn't have high expectations when I searched — but that's when I found Circus Rabbit in Jamsil.

Ordering a same-day lunchbox cake via KakaoTalk

What caught my eye most was that they offer same-day lunchbox cakes, so I asked. I searched on Naver first, then reached out via KakaoTalk.

There were quite a lot of cake types, and they sent photos of the available designs right away so I could pick from them. When I described the mood I wanted, they gave friendly advice too, so I was able to decide faster than I expected.

The design, flavor, and lettering conditions I chose

I chose the Lovely lunchbox cake design No. 2 and asked them to change the color from pink to mint. Lunchbox cakes let you choose between milk, raspberry, or Oreo flavor, and I went with milk since it's easy for a young kid to eat. For the lettering, I went with 'HAPPY OO Day'!

For lunchbox cakes, lettering is limited to 8 characters or less, and English phrases come in set formats. Also — bear cakes and flower-topped cakes (Best No. 5 and No. 8) are hard to order same-day, so if you're in a rush, keep that in mind.

Since I wanted to consult on the design, I went through KakaoTalk, but if you already know exactly the design you want, booking directly through Naver seems simpler.

Ordered at 11am, picked up at 1pm

And here's the part I liked most this time: I ordered at 11am and picked up at 1pm. I always thought lettering cakes needed at least a day or two of advance notice, so being able to get a cake with custom lettering within just a few hours was really convenient. For anyone suddenly needing to celebrate a birthday or anniversary, finding a lettering cake shop that takes same-day orders is a huge advantage.

Finding your way and parking at Jangmi Shopping Complex basement

Once the reservation was confirmed, they gave detailed directions, which looked a bit complicated on paper. But once I actually went, it was really easy as long as I found the right entrance. Head to Building B of Jangmi Shopping Complex, go in through Entrance 8, and go down the stairs — Circus Rabbit is right there.

Instead of going straight into the shopping complex after parking, I went looking for Entrance 8 of Building B, and that felt like the fastest route. Parking is free for 30 minutes, which was plenty of time to just pick up the cake and leave.

The lunchbox cake looked even cuter in person

When I got to the shop, I could see my ordered cake sitting right in the display case. My first thought was, 'It's even prettier than I expected?'

It was much cuter in person than in the photos. I was worried a 'lunchbox cake' might look unimpressive in real life, but it was so cute and pretty that I felt good about my choice.

You can buy candles on the spot

Inside the shop, they also sold a variety of candles. There were number candles, hearts, ribbons, and animal shapes — plenty of options — so it's great even if you didn't prepare your own beforehand.

Figure cakes I discovered in the design book

I also flipped through the cake design book in the shop, and that's where my eyes really lit up haha. Beyond basic lettering cakes, there were various sizes and designs, and what especially caught my eye were the figure cakes.

The design book had figure cakes, and apparently if you have a specific figure you want, you can send it in and they'll build a cake around it. The owner also showed me figures other customers had sent in for their cakes, and there were so many different kinds.

My own child's birthday happens to be next month, so this really caught my attention. Kids react so differently when there's a favorite character or figure on top. A cake made with their favorite figure seems like it would leave a much stronger impression than a regular lettering cake, so I've already saved it as a candidate for the next birthday cake.

Packaging and unmanned pickup

At pickup, the lunchbox cake was neatly wrapped in clear plastic with a ribbon. They also included a guide sheet and basic candles, so there wasn't much else I needed to prepare, and even though it was a small cake, it definitely felt like a proper gift. After 4pm, pickup switches to an unmanned system — I didn't use it myself, but I took some photos.

I expected a 'pretty-only' cake, but...

Honestly, one thing I was a little worried about when ordering a lettering cake was the taste. I'd once ordered an online delivery lettering cake for my husband's birthday, and the design was really pretty. But honestly, the taste was disappointing haha. So I had this image that lettering cakes were kind of 'cakes you eat for the pretty factor' — but after trying Circus Rabbit's cake, my mind changed.

Finished mint-colored lunchbox cake with lettering

It was a cake I threw together in a rush, but it turned out to be a real success. My two-year-old nephew ran right up to it and started eating it with his hands haha.

I thought of it that morning, ordered at 11am, picked up at 1pm, and could even include the lettering I wanted — and when I actually got it, the design was so pretty. On top of that, the taste was good too, so it checked every box. I think I'll remember this place next time I suddenly need a small cake.

It seems like a really good option especially when you've already had a big birthday party, or when you want to prepare a small, not-too-heavy cake for a date with a partner or friend. If you're looking for a great lettering cake shop in Jamsil, Songpa, or one that takes same-day orders, I highly recommend Circus Rabbit :) I think I'll keep thinking about the figure cake for my kid's birthday next month :)
