Daegu Korean restaurant for group ssambap meals: Imga-ne Ureong Ssambap
In short
Imga-ne Ureong Ssambap is a Korean restaurant near Palgongsan in Dong-gu, Daegu, serving wrap meals with freshwater snails in seasoned soybean paste. I tried boiled pork, mackerel, charcoal-grilled bulgogi, and individual pot rice, plus the plentiful self-serve wrap vegetables. Verdict: a generous, clean-tasting table that works wonderfully for family meals and groups.

A freshwater-snail ssambap meal found at Palgongsan
Imga-ne Ureong Ssambap is on the way up from Pagye Samgeori, where the road toward Gonji Gonji branches off, in the direction of the Daegu Bank training center. There are so many great restaurants and cafés around here, too! But this was one of those places where the food, prices, and interior all left me happy~

There is a large parking lot right in front, so no parking worries at all!! Even if a group comes in several cars, there is plenty of space, which makes visiting nice and easy~

You enter through the middle entrance. The white, single-story building was so pretty~

Seeing a waiting-list machine, I thought weekends must be incredibly popular~ I went on a weekday, though, so they did not have it turned on.

Hanok-style dining halls and rooms for group meals
The dining hall had warm woodwork in a hanok (traditional Korean house) style~ The whole space felt cozy and calm, so I think older guests would really like it. There are halls on both sides of the entrance, so there is plenty of seating!! It was weekday lunchtime and still busy: there were parties of two to four, but also groups of six or seven. With several group tables, it is great for social club gatherings, company meals, or family dining~ There are also two rooms, so you can enjoy a more private meal~

Set meals chosen at the table kiosk
Here is the menu. Every table has a kiosk, so you can order while looking at photos~ Most dishes are in the ₩10,000 range, which felt like great value around Palgongsan!! I ordered the Dangsin-do Set (boiled pork + mackerel) for two and the Mandakko Set (charcoal-grilled bulgogi) for one~

When you order, all these different side dishes arrive~ Even the basic banchan (Korean side dishes) were on par with what you would get at a proper Korean set-meal restaurant! They were the kind of sides that would not divide opinions too much, which I liked. There was also ssamjang (seasoned soybean paste) and salted seafood, so you can enjoy your wraps in lots of ways besides the freshwater-snail ssamjang.

Better still, you can pick up more side dishes at the self-serve bar whenever you need them~

Boiled pork, mackerel, charcoal bulgogi, and pot rice
What a table-filling spread!! It packed a four-person table so tightly that we needed to add a small side table.. The mackerel was large, too, with a crisp outside and moist center. The charcoal-grilled bulgogi had a nice balance of fat and lean meat, and it had such an intense smoky aroma—wrap it up and it is full of that fire-grilled flavor! So delicious~ The herbal boiled pork was a good portion, too, and moist and tender. A gentle medicinal-herb aroma came through as you ate, making it even tastier!
Everyone also received a hot pot of rice. After you scoop out the rice and pour in scorched-rice tea water, it becomes wonderfully nutty!! Imga-ne Ureong Ssambap uses such good rice~ Since it was pot rice, it was hot and glossy, with a subtle sweetness in every bite!!

A wrap-vegetable self-serve bar where you can help yourself freely
So many wraps, too!! I loved being able to eat so many kinds of ssam vegetables~ There was steamed cabbage and kelp as well! And!! It can feel awkward and inconvenient to keep asking for more of all these vegetables, right? Look at this...!! All the wrap vegetables are at the self-serve bar.... You can take as much as you want without feeling self-conscious~~ There were lettuce, chicory, beet leaves, angelica leaves, kale, and more—lots of vegetables that are hard to buy and eat at home!!! There were basic greens as well as fragrant ones like angelica, so you can make wraps with all kinds of flavors.
Every meat dish included in the sets was high quality and delicious~ The mackerel looked almost too well done from the outside? But inside, you could see moist, glossy flesh!! It was large and meaty, not salty, and clean-tasting, so it went beautifully with the wraps~ The herbal boiled pork was not overly fatty or greasy, and the meat was moist and tender. Personally, I thought its herbal aroma paired so well with the angelica leaves! The charcoal-grilled bulgogi came in generous pieces, so you could really taste the meat~ It had such a strong smoky flavor that it was delicious on its own, and equally delicious wrapped up, filling your mouth with that fire-grilled aroma~ The mackerel, pork, and bulgogi were all gently seasoned, so they complemented rather than overwhelmed the wraps. I think even kids who do not usually eat vegetables would like it!!!

Individual pots of freshwater-snail ssamjang
And this is the star here!! The freshwater-snail ssamjang~ Each person gets one of these little earthenware pots, so you can eat as much as you like without worrying about anyone else~ It was packed with snail meat, but it was neither chewy nor fishy. The paste was nutty and nicely salty—just right for wraps. It also had vegetables such as onion, scallion, and radish mixed in, giving it even more texture and savoriness~~

Wrapping it up with all these different vegetables was the best!! Personally, I do not usually enjoy cabbage stems or steamed cabbage because of that distinctive cabbage smell, but there was none of it here, and the stems were not tough either, which I loved~ It was great wrapped together with the salted seafood that came with the meal!

Homemade sikhye after the meal
By the exit, there is homemade sikhye (sweet rice drink) made by the owner herself~ It was full of tiny ice crystals and so delicious. It was not overly sweet, with a gentle malt aroma, so it was nutty, refreshing, and perfect after a meal!! It is mild enough for older guests to enjoy, too—just right for cleansing the palate~
A place for a generous, healthy spread at a reasonable price around Palgongsan!! Everything was clean-tasting and lightly seasoned rather than intensely flavored, making it truly great for taking older family members. With a spacious hall and private rooms, it is also perfect for social gatherings or group meals~
