Daegu izakaya with 10-hour motsunabe broth: Gyodong Nakwon

Today I went to a Gyodong, Daegu spot I return to whenever I'm craving that outdoor terrace vibe — Gyodong Nakwon (교동낙원), which has the best open-air drinking atmosphere 🌙

There may be a wait on weekends 👆 The signature menu is motsunabe (offal hot pot), crab tomalley pasta, and salmon sashimi

Gyodong Nakwon has a nice indoor atmosphere too, but I honestly prefer sitting outside haha. On a nice day, outdoor seating is the way to go‼️

Another great thing is you can watch games on a big screen. They put the match on so everyone can cheer together, and the vibe is fantastic!!

It's great for noisy group hangouts and comfortable enough for a work dinner, while still having atmosphere. A place that's perfect for watching a game and having fun.

Warm blankets, mosquito repellent, even mosquito coils — fully prepared haha

Cozy and retro, with a spoonful of atmosphere ~ so nice hahaha. Great not just for dates but for gathering with friends for a drink too 👍🏻👍🏻

The inside stretches back further than you'd expect, with both table seating and bar-style seats — total Japanese izakaya vibes ☺️

How rich is the 10-hour motsunabe broth at Gyodong Nakwon?

What stuck with me most this day was the motsunabe (offal hot pot) broth 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 I'd been on a dry streak for a while. So at first I wasn't going to drink, but one spoonful of that hot broth changed my mind......

In the end I ordered soju right away....

Motsunabe is a hot pot style dish with beef intestine, bean sprouts, and chives, and true to a chicken broth simmered over 10 hours, the broth is rich and packed with umami .... 🥹🥹

The beef intestine has that distinctive savory, chewy texture, and eaten with the broth it's the ultimate drinking snack.....

Chicken nanban and an extra noodle refill to finish

And the chicken nanban we had alongside. As you can see in the photo, the batter is golden — crispy outside, juicy chicken inside ‼️‼️

On top there's plenty of tartar sauce with mashed egg, and a light dusting of seasoning powder that cuts the richness. So delicious ... and dipping it in the seasoned sauce is amazing too

The leftover broth was too good to waste ... so in the end we finished with an extra noodle refill haha. I'd been on a dry streak but one sip of that broth had me ordering soju after all. The atmosphere of eating outside on a nice day is unreal .... the combo of motsunabe and chicken nanban as drinking food was so satisfying.

Who should visit Gyodong Nakwon in Daegu?

Since it's open as usual even during the Chuseok holiday, it's a great place to come with friends and relatives for some atmosphere 😋 If you're looking for somewhere in Gyodong to enjoy a drink with vibes rather than just a quiet meal, I definitely want to recommend this‼️
