Gyodong shellfish grill pub in Daegu: 59,000-won street set, Nampo

In short

Nampo is a shellfish grill pub tucked into a Gyodong alley in Jung-gu, Daegu, with an indoor hall and round street-side tables outdoors. The writer booked an indoor table, asked the staff to move outside because the weather was good, and ate the small shellfish grill set for two at 59,000 won along with a free mukchammari (aged kimchi tuna roll) from a Naver receipt review event. With shabu-shabu, pork cutlet and macaroni salad served as basic sides, Nampo makes a well-rounded drinking spot for two.

These days, the moment evening rolls around there's this soft breeze that just makes it perfect for a cold beer-and-soju outside, haha. I couldn't let a night like that pass by, so on the weekend I headed straight for Gyodong, the alley packed with hot spots for drinks.

After debating where to go, I ended up at Nampo, a shellfish grill restaurant famous for giving you real seaside pojangmacha (street tent bar) vibes right in the middle of downtown Daegu. I'd originally booked an indoor table, but the weather outside was just too gorgeous to waste sitting inside. So I asked the staff nicely and moved straight to an outdoor table to enjoy that romantic street-side mood instead. From the shellfish grill that surprised me with how generous and fresh it was, to the seriously solid basic side dishes — it was such a perfect outdoor-seating vibe, haha. Here's the review.

Where is Nampo, and how easy is the Gyodong alley to find?

Nampo sits deep inside the main Gyodong alley, so it's really easy to reach — just walk over after getting off at Jungangno Station or Daegu Station on Line 1. 👍🏻 Since it's such a hot pub in Gyodong lately, tables fill up fast if you're even a little late, and on weekend peak hours the place is buzzing with energy.

The moment I arrived at the entrance, I fell right into the retro, vintage outdoor-seating vibe in front of the building. Inside there's a stylish, atmospheric indoor hall, while outside there's a whole spread of round outdoor tables where you can enjoy a cool night breeze with your drink — great for picking whichever suits your mood.

Inside Nampo's hall and the brazier setup at each table

Once you step through the door, the soft warm orange lighting and upscale stone-wall interior make for a really cozy, atmospheric space! The layout is beautifully arranged, from bar-style counter seats perfect for solo drinking or a quiet duo, to bigger seats where a group can sit comfortably.

Each table has a special grill set up with pebbles neatly lined inside, so you can grill with style indoors without worrying about smell or smoke. We had actually reserved a table inside originally.

But on a day like this, I felt like I'd regret it if I didn't eat on the outdoor terrace 🤣 I carefully asked the staff if we could move, and they kindly guided us to an outdoor table — it made me so happy. Sitting in a circle around the outdoor round steel-plate table felt just like being on a seaside trip, haha.

Nampo's menu and what we ordered

The front of the menu was packed with fresh seafood options — shellfish grill in small/medium/large, value set menus like the Pear Set and Harbor Set, grilled raw shrimp, grilled blue crab, and seasonal seafood. Flipping to the back, there was a great range of drinking-food side dishes too — dried seafood tower, minari shrimp pancake, scallop risotto, seafood ramyeon, whole whelk soup, mukjjammal — plus highballs and draft beer.

There were so many good options that we ended up going with the signature standouts.

The basic sides that come before the shellfish

Wow, the quality of the basic side dishes here genuinely rivals the main order!!! A big tray basket piled with fresh vegetables and shellfish for shabu-shabu, plus crispy pork cutlet with a sweet-savory sauce, and nutty macaroni salad ~!!

What comes in Nampo's shellfish grill set for two

The sheer presence of the shellfish grill!!! No wonder it's considered one of the hottest shellfish grill spots in downtown Daegu. On a long rectangular tray, it came packed full with scallops, half-shell clams, large clams, abalone, fresh shrimp, plus cheese sauce in a foil container and golden dinner rolls.

The free mukchammari from the Naver receipt review event

And then the mukjjammal (aged kimchi tuna roll) we got free for taking part in the Naver receipt review event!! I was shocked by the sheer size — it was as thick as a forearm. Sour, crunchy well-rinsed aged kimchi wrapped around tuna and rice, and after just one or two pieces I was already full, ㅠㅠ. It was absolutely stuffed with tuna mayo, practically bursting. A perfect side for filling up.

Cheese-topped scallops and shrimp cooking on the grill

How did the cheese-topped grilled shellfish taste?

Once we piled the cheese-topped scallops and shrimp on the grill and started cooking, the buttery cheese aroma sizzling away was insane... The abalone comes fully cooked and even gets trimmed for you — dipping a piece into vinegared gochujang, there was no fishy taste at all, just chewy and bouncy!

Bubbling away with the cheese, the natural sweetness of the shellfish combined with the rich, nutty cheese was just 👍🏻👍🏻 It had all the freshness you'd expect right by the sea, and it was exactly the cheese-bomb shellfish grill I love!

Which nights are best for a visit to Nampo?

The shellfish was as fresh as if we were eating right by the ocean, and the generous cheese topping delivered way beyond expectations. On top of that, the spicy shabu-shabu and crispy pork cutlet as basic sides made for a really solid, satisfying drinking spread for two.

The hip, cozy indoor atmosphere is appealing too, but on breezy nights like these, I'd definitely recommend grabbing an outdoor street table! If you're looking for a Gyodong pub that nails both food quality and a romantic atmosphere, or just want a foolproof shellfish grill with a drink, definitely check out Nampo, a top shellfish grill spot in Daegu!
