Kid-friendly Korean BBQ in Chilgok, Daegu: Mijin Chuksan Chilgok

I heard there was a Korean BBQ spot in Chilgok that's famous for being both budget-friendly and great to visit with a baby, so I rushed straight over — here's my review!

At Mijin Chuksan Chilgok Branch you take your shoes off before sitting down, which made it comfortable with my kid. 🥾🥾 Please remove your shoes before entering.

The moment my son walked in... he seemed to have already found his spot lol, settled right in lol lol. He's 7, so anything with these arcade games makes him so happy haha.

Near the entrance there's a kids' zone where children can play for a bit. It has everything from toys to arcade games to a claw machine, so it was great for the kids to play a little before or after the meal — just note the claw machine has a separate usage fee 💰

How big is the restaurant, and what's the atmosphere like?

The place was actually a lot bigger in person than it looks in photos. When I visited there were quite a lot of customers, so it had a bustling, lively energy haha.

I saw tables with families and tables with larger groups eating together, so it seemed like a great place to visit with friends, for family meals out, or for company dinners — basically great for larger groups.

What's on the self-serve bar at Mijin Chuksan Chilgok Branch?

Mijin Chuksan Chilgok Branch had the best self-serve bar out of all the Korean BBQ places I've been to! It clicked why there were so many people haha 😋 There's lettuce wraps of course, plus kimchi, pickled vegetables, scallion salad and various side ingredients, and even cheese‼️

There are also ingredients that are great to grill alongside the meat, like fernbrake and pineapple, plus ramen noodles and more — you can pick whatever sides suit your taste at the self-serve bar, which is the best 👍🏻

Don't forget to grab the review event — a spam lunchbox or a bottle of soju!

Various sauces and basic side dishes

A bubbling doenjang (soybean paste) soup — good on its own, but you can also bring over some ramen noodles and try it as a doenjang crab-flavor ramen 😋

How thick is the pork, and how does it taste?

The moment the meat came out I was surprised — good quality, and quite a thick cut.

It had good thickness, with just the right amount of fat marbled through the lean meat, so once grilled it was juicy and savory rather than dry.

Because of the thickness, once you sear the outside golden brown, the first bite bursts with juicy flavor, and the more you chew the more that distinctive savory meat flavor comes through.

Wrapping it in lettuce with garlic or sauce cuts the richness too, so I kept reaching for more without ever getting tired of it haha.

Rolling it up with cheese (if you run low on cheese, there's more at the self-serve bar).

Bibim jjolmyeon and the soda choices

I was extra satisfied that Mijin Chuksan Chilgok Branch has bibim jjolmyeon (spicy chewy cold noodles) — eating a bite of meat followed by a bite of the noodles, that sweet-and-sour, spicy sauce resets your palate... which is exactly how you end up eating meat endlessly.

Another thing that surprised me — unlike other Korean BBQ places, they had a variety of flavored sodas: watermelon soda, melon soda, even peach soda. This owner's sense of style is no joke‼️‼️haha

This was a place where I went for the meat and got surprised once by the size of the restaurant, then surprised again by how many customers were there.
