Matcha ribs near Sookmyung Women's University Station
We always spend ages wondering what to eat for lunch on a date.. We had come all the way to Seoul and wanted something a little unusual, so while searching, I found out there were ribs marinated with matcha! That brought us to this Sookdae-area favorite, Muttuk Sookdae Main Branch (무뚝 숙대본점), a Korean barbecue restaurant!
Apparently, “Muttuk” comes from a dialect version of “mundeuk,” meaning “suddenly,” and the name was chosen in hopes of becoming a meat restaurant that suddenly comes to mind! I was so curious because the name had meaning, and I headed in excited to see whether these unique matcha ribs would really be delicious :)
There is no dedicated parking lot, but you can use the Cheongpadong Community Center Public Parking Lot right next door. (Parking fees are not subsidized.)

The menu and comfortable interior
The matcha ribs are such a unique menu item that they are naturally the most famous, but there was also a mixed pork set and plenty of different side dishes!

A clean, comfortable look inside :) The space is used efficiently to accommodate lots of people, with a pleasant atmosphere that is perfect for company dinners or gatherings.

It is a popular restaurant where celebrities have also stopped by for a meal. By the entrance, they provide thoughtful amenities such as deodorizer for any meat smell that may cling to your clothes, mouthwash, hair ties, toothpicks, and more.

There are clean separate restrooms for men and women inside, plus cute high chairs for little ones. Disposable aprons are available too.

Table ordering and the basic side dishes
Everything can be ordered at the table, and there is even a Naver review event! Leave a review and you get beef brisket ramen 👍🏻
We could easily bring over any extra side dishes we needed from the self-service bar.

They set up the first round for you :) Side dishes that looked like they would go beautifully with the meat~ They were neat, but I loved that there were so many basic banchan (Korean side dishes).
There was even a special sauce with fresh minari (water parsley)! The refreshing minari cut through the richness of the ribs.

Matcha ribs grilled for you
As soon as we ordered, they brought out the charcoal grill!

- Matcha ribs ₩44,000
- Cheese bomb steamed egg ₩7,000
- Soju, Zero Cola, and more
These matcha ribs were a little different from ordinary ribs, so they really caught my eye! The ribs came piled generously with matcha marinade, with fragrant minari alongside, making the whole spread feel abundant.
The cheese bomb steamed egg looked exactly as its name suggests, with cheese absolutely exploding on top hahahahaha. The cheese completely covered the fluffy steamed egg without a gap, so it looked rich and soft just from the first glance!
A staff member put the meat on the grill and cooked it for us! Matcha ribs—I was so excited haha.
Onto the charcoal, then carefully grilled haha. As they browned, the green color gradually disappeared too.

They were grilled so appetizingly! I thought the matcha aroma would be strong, but it just smelled like ribs hahahahaha. Let’s try them.
They also put minari beside the nicely browned ribs, adding its fragrant aroma!

A matcha note at the finish
I really enjoyed how the matcha aroma came through at the end! I like matcha, so I had no hesitation at all, but my boyfriend does not usually prefer it, and I wondered whether it might be hard for him at first. But after one bite, he said it was so good and enjoyed it in lots of combinations too 👍🏻

The pork ribs were also so delicious with all the banchan and ssam (lettuce wraps) that came with them! Yum yum, the best combination with scallion kimchi and myeongi namul (pickled wild garlic leaves).
Cheese bomb steamed egg and soy sauce egg rice
The steamed egg really did get hit by a cheese bomb. The stretchy cheese seemed like it would add even more nuttiness to the steamed egg haha.

It had that rich, nutty steamed-egg flavor! I loved that it was not rich in a heavy way, and the popping corn kernels made the texture fun while also refreshing the palate nicely :)
I wanted rice too, so we ordered soy sauce egg rice! It was lightly seasoned, which made it perfect with the meat~ Meal finished nice and full ✨

If you are looking for different ribs
I ordered it because I was curious about the unusual combination of matcha and ribs, and it turned out to work better than expected, so I was very satisfied! The matcha marinade gave it a charm different from the ribs you eat all the time, and it was even nicer with the fragrant minari that came alongside :)
Adding the cheese bomb steamed egg, loaded with cheese, completed a rich and soft pairing that was perfect as a drinking snack too! It is a great place to visit when you want to try something different or have a drink with plentiful food, and I really want to come back to try other dishes next time. Highly recommended Korean barbecue spot 👍🏻✨
