In short
Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel (장수촌풍천장어) is an eel restaurant near Yangjae Station and the Baengbaeng-sageori intersection in Gangnam, Seoul, serving Korean-farmed eel salt-grilled over charcoal. Two of us worked through 2kg of eel, grilled tableside by the staff across a restaurant that fills both the first and second floors, and finished with complimentary king oyster mushrooms and rice cake skewers. For a company dinner or group meal near Yangjae Station, Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel delivers on both seating and flavour.

Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel
Where is Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel near Yangjae Station?
Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel at Baengbaeng-sageori is a Yangjae Station spot where you can enjoy fresh domestic eel at a reasonable price. It's one block in from the main road, so it's pretty easy to find. It's also close to Yangjae Station and right in front of a bus stop, so it's great to reach by public transit.

Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel uses both the 1st and 2nd floors of the building. The sign is huge, so there's no chance of getting lost. It's apparently popular for office worker gatherings too, so a lot of people pick it as a company dinner spot near Yangjae Station.

The menu at Jangsuchon Pungcheon Eel and the feel of the two floors
The menu is posted big on the outside too, so you can check it out before you even walk in — nice touch. The main dish is salt-grilled eel, and they also sell beef short rib meat and side dishes. There's a rice-meal menu as well, so it seemed like a good spot to go for lunch too.

The interior is pretty spacious. The 2nd floor is wide, so it looked great for company dinners or gatherings. The table setup is exactly built for group meals.

What comes free: eel juice pouch and the self-serve banchan bar
Once we sat down, there was an eel juice pouch waiting at each seat. At 90ml, it was easy to just drink in one go. Right from the start it really felt like an eel specialty restaurant.

The basic banchan (side dishes) were set out generously too. Leafy greens for wraps, salad, scallion kimchi, chive namul, white kimchi — quite a variety. The side dishes seemed to go really well with grilled eel. If you run low, you can grab more from the self-serve bar. Being able to help yourself without feeling awkward about it was really convenient.

Charcoal salt-grilled eel, cooked tableside by the staff
After a short wait, the charcoal came out. The charcoal itself looked really good quality.

The prepped eel came out next. Staff were continuously prepping eel back in the kitchen, so it kept coming out fast. A staff member grills the eel for you, sprinkling on salt as it cooks.

They flipped it around carefully so it wouldn't burn. The flesh was turning white as it cooked through nicely.

While grilling, they trimmed off any unnecessary bits and cut it into easy-to-eat pieces. Once it was cooked enough, they cut it into bite-sized portions.
It was cooked to a nice golden brown, looking so appetizing. Partway through I thought it looked done enough to eat, but the staff said it needed a bit more time — haha. If we'd been grilling it ourselves, we probably would've eaten it a bit undercooked. Once pieces were done, they moved them off to the side so they wouldn't burn.

How does the eel at Jangsuchon Pungcheon taste?
The edges were slightly crisp and the center was moist — great grilled eel. Since the staff grilled it exactly right, it was really satisfying.

We wrapped it in lettuce and ate it with the chive namul too. The eel was thick and not dry or fibrous, so it was easy to eat.

Free finish: king oyster mushrooms and rice cake skewers
Right as we were finishing up the eel, king oyster mushrooms and rice cake skewers (tteokkkochi) came out as a free service.

The staff grilled the king oyster mushrooms and rice cake skewers for us too. Since they grilled it all so well, all we had to do was chat and eat.
2kg of eel between two people: is Jangsuchon Pungcheon good for a company dinner?
Two of us ate 2kg of eel between us, and we ended up very full. Since staff grill it directly over the charcoal, you never end up with burnt or undercooked bites — it comes to you cooked just right every time. No fishy smell either, and the eel was plump and tasty. If you're looking for a company dinner or gathering spot near Yangjae Station, this is worth checking out. The restaurant is quite spacious and the food is good, so you won't regret it.
