Jangyu hangover kalguksu restaurant with extra chili: Seosan Dongjuk
In short
Seosan Dongjuk Kalguksu is a dongjuk clam kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) restaurant in Jangyu, Gimhae, near the Yulha café street and Seyoung Richel Apartments. Nursing a hangover from the night before, the writer ordered the ₩9,000 clam kalguksu with extra cheongyang chili for a fiery broth, then added the ₩15,000 ojaknae seafood pancake and Jipyeong makgeolli (rice wine). For a spicy bowl that clears out a rough morning after, Seosan Dongjuk Kalguksu does the job.

Why Seosan Dongjuk Kalguksu is a hangover stop in Jangyu
I stopped by Jangyu for lunch on my way home from Changwon. Having overdone it the night before, I was racking my brain for something to fix my stomach when I remembered a kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) place I'd been to before in Jangyu. A spicy broth loaded with dongjuk clams and cheongyang chili peppers is exactly what you need to feel human again, so I headed to Seosan Dongjuk Kalguksu.

Inside the restaurant and the 16-space parking lot

Seosan Dongjuk Kalguksu sits near Seyoung Richel Apartments by the Yulha café street. Since it's a recently opened spot, the interior and vibe are clean and tidy. There's also a dedicated lot next to the restaurant with room for 16 cars, so parking isn't a worry here.

The self-serve bar is also kept neat and organized.

The menu has just three items: dongjuk kalguksu, dongjuk clam soup, and ojaknae seafood pancake. Focusing on so few dishes makes ordering easy, and it also means better ingredient turnover — so the food you get is nice and fresh.
What we ordered and which spice level to pick

We ordered the dongjuk kalguksu and a seafood pancake. The kalguksu comes in three spice levels, and the default already includes cheongyang chili. The signature of this Jangyu spot is really the combo of dongjuk clams and cheongyang chili — that's what gives you the sharp, cooling-yet-fiery kick in the broth. Of course you can also order it with no cheongyang chili at all, so if you can't handle spice, skip the chili, and if you love heat, go for extra.

Here's the full spread once it arrived. Doesn't it look great!!
Ojaknae seafood pancake, ₩15,000

The ojaknae seafood pancake (₩15,000) is loaded with seafood — the ojaknae combo — and it looks hearty just by sight.

I dipped a bite into the chojang (vinegared chili sauce) the staff recommended. The crispy batter gave way to squid, shrimp, and octopus practically bouncing in my mouth. The pancake itself has chili mixed in too, so it carries a spicy kick of its own.

Jipyeong makgeolli (₩4,000) — you've got to fight alcohol with alcohol, right? So I went ahead and ordered a makgeolli too. With a seafood pancake on the table, drinking a glass would only be polite.

Pairing it with the seafood pancake as a side dish turned out to be a killer combo.
Dongjuk clam kalguksu, ₩9,000, with extra cheongyang chili

Dongjuk kalguksu (₩9,000 x 2) — finally, time to dig into the kalguksu. I went with extra cheongyang chili, so it came out seriously fiery.

The moment I sipped the broth, my hangover cleared right up and I snapped wide awake.

The chewy kalguksu noodles paired beautifully with the clean, briny flavor of the dongjuk clams — that plump, springy texture was fantastic. The kimchi here is also spicy, by the way. Keep eating it and your mouth will catch fire. If you can't handle spice, I'd recommend the kkakdugi (cubed radish kimchi) instead — that one isn't spicy.

The cheongyang chili really stole the show. I hadn't landed such a spicy pepper in a while, and it nearly killed me. This Jangyu spot has clearly mastered the art of delicious spiciness.

Rice (free) — the broth was so spicy and addictive that I demolished the whole bowl of kalguksu, then ordered rice to mix into the leftover broth. And here's the good news: the rice is free!! Such a generous deal, right?

Is Seosan Dongjuk Kalguksu worth a return trip for a hangover?
The charm of this Jangyu spot was getting to eat a spicy kalguksu loaded with cheongyang chili. Free rice on top of that, plus a seafood pancake stuffed with seafood to whet your appetite — hard to beat. Especially for someone as hungover as I was, it was the perfect place to fix myself up. If you're craving a fiery kalguksu that really wakes up your appetite, give Seosan Dongjuk Kalguksu a try.
