Cheongju grill restaurant with creamy draft beer: Anmin Yullyang
In short
Anmin Yullyang is a grill restaurant tucked into an alley off Yullyang-ro 201beon-gil in Cheongwon-gu, Cheongju, Chungbuk, with a warm wood-toned interior. Three friends shared the whole pig set (64,000 won) with jar sundubu jjigae (soft tofu stew), premium steamed egg and the restaurant's new creamy draft beer, all grilled at the table by the owner. Between the smokeless ventilation, the brazier that keeps the meat warm, and the pine flower salt and cheese fondue sauce, Anmin Yullyang is a meal worth coming back for.

A few days ago I went to Anmin in Yullyang-dong, Cheongju with my friends! Out of all the BBQ places I've been to, this one had the most upscale vibe, and since they grill everything for you, it was so easy to eat — plus the food was actually delicious, so I wanted to write a review 🌟

A wood-toned room that doesn't look like a grill house
The moment we walked into Anmin, we were all shocked at how pretty it was for a BBQ restaurant. The place was decorated in wood tones, with bamboo and plants scattered around, so the air didn't feel heavy or greasy even though it's a grilled meat place~ The atmosphere was so upscale and nice that I thought it'd even work as a first date spot!!
There's also a room at the back, which looked great for group gatherings haha

Each seat had utensils and a menu already set out, and orders were placed via tablet, which made picking dishes and ordering really convenient~~
At each seat there was a note thanking us for finding Anmin tucked away in this alley, and telling us we were their —th customer!! This kind of thoughtful touch made it feel like they genuinely care about their guests 👍

Lately when I go to bars or restaurants in Yullyang-dong, the bathrooms are often outside or not very clean, which is disappointing. But at Anmin Yullyang, the bathroom is inside the restaurant and super clean, which I loved ෆ

The Anmin Yullyang menu and what three friends ordered
The menu was the most diverse I've seen at any BBQ place!! The main meat options were pork belly, pork neck, a special cuts platter, and pork jowl, plus set menus~ The side dishes were incredibly varied too — doenjang jjigae, sundubu jjigae, ramen, golbaengi-myeon (spicy whelk noodles), fried rice, steamed egg, and nurungji-tang (scorched rice soup). Ramen at a BBQ restaurant?! And they even had both hot and cold ramen, which was so surprising!
The drinks menu was also super varied, from distilled spirits to highballs to non-alcoholic cocktails, but the newly launched creamy draft beer looked so good in the photo that we picked it right away~! Since there were three of us, we went with the whole pig set, which comes with pork belly, pork neck, special cuts, and gopchang (pork intestine skin) at the end!
- Whole pig set (₩64,000)
- Jar sundubu jjigae (₩6,000)
- Premium steamed egg (₩3,000)
- Creamy draft beer, 3 glasses (₩14,700)
- Rice bowls x2 (₩2,000)

Side dishes and sauces: the cheese fondue sauce was my pick
On one side, all of Anmin's side dishes and sauces were listed out, which was so handy to reference while eating~ The scallion salad felt like the kind of vegetable mix that goes in jjolmyeon (chewy cold noodles) — spicy and really tasty 🤤!! There were so many different sauces to pair with the meat, but my pick was the cheese fondue sauce!! I worried that
cheese might make it too rich with the meat, but it wasn't greasy at all — it was actually really light and delicious~

Smokeless ventilation and the owner grilling at your table
When the meat came out, the color looked so good that we were shocked,, Tomatoes, mushrooms, and asparagus came alongside it too, which seemed perfect to pair with the meat!!
The brazier was connected straight to a vent that sucked up the smoke immediately, so there was truly no smoke at all! Since there was no smoke, our clothes didn't smell and our eyes didn't sting, which was so nice~~
Having the owner grill everything right beside us was so, so convenient! When I grill myself, sometimes it burns or comes out undercooked and I have to re-cook it, but the owner grilled and cut everything with such quick, skilled hands that it was great 👍👍

Doesn't the meat look thick and delicious even just from the photo 🥹!! Watching it turn golden brown made my mouth water hahaha

What is the new creamy draft beer at Anmin Yullyang?
They brought our draft beer first, and true to the name
'creamy draft beer,' the foam on top was fantastic~~ The beer itself tasted amazing and cold, and they even added a lemon wedge for a slightly refreshing touch, which was perfect with the meat! The beer was so good that I even asked what it was when we paid,,,, haha

The sunchi (soft tofu stew) was packed with fluffy sundubu (soft tofu)!! Eating the hot, spicy broth with rice was so good, it worked great as a kind of appetizer while waiting for the meat to finish grilling 🤤

Pork belly, pork neck and skirt meat moved onto the brazier
They grilled the pork belly, pork neck, and skirt meat (galmaegisal) for us~ They said if we asked, they'd grill the gopchang (pork intestine skin) at the very end haha
A big plus of Anmin Cheongju!!! Once the meat is cooked, they move it over to a side brazier for you~ Having the brazier meant we could keep eating the meat warm all the way to the end, which was so, so nice and made it taste even better ♥!!

First bite with the owner's pick, pine flower salt
For our very first bite, we dipped the meat in the pine flower salt (songhwayeom) the owner recommended! The pine flower salt had a pale yellow, natural color from pine pollen haha. It had a distinctly natural saltiness compared to regular salt, which made it a great choice for the first bite!! There was also white kimchi, shiitake wasabi, and more to pair with the meat, so we never got tired of eating 🤤

The texture of the meat itself was so chewy, with a hint of charcoal aroma that made it even tastier!! It wasn't greasy at all — nutty and light — so my friends and I kept repeating how good it was over and over,, haha

Ending with premium steamed egg and herbal pork skin
We ordered the steamed egg near the end, more like a dessert~ It came out piping hot, which made it even better, with a soft, nutty umami flavor that was truly premium 🍀

For the last course, they grilled the gopchang (pork intestine skin) for us too and cut it into bite-sized pieces haha. It was so chewy, and dipping it generously in soybean powder made it nutty and delicious — the gopchang finish was perfect too 🤤

Anmin in Cheongju nails both the atmosphere and the taste all at once!! It was such a perfect meal that a repeat visit is guaranteed,, ෆ If you're looking for a BBQ restaurant in Yullyang-dong, Cheongju, I highly recommend checking it out!! ⭐️
