Asan monkfish restaurant with kids: level 1 boneless agujjim, Sinseong
In short
Sinseong Agujjim Asan Branch is a monkfish and seafood stew restaurant on Samdong-ro 28beon-gil in Asan, Chungnam. Three of us — my mother, my child and me — ordered boneless agujjim (spicy braised monkfish, small) at spice level 1, two servings of fried rice and a kids' pork cutlet; even level 1 was as spicy as instant ramen, but the stew came loaded with monkfish roe. Sinseong Agujjim Asan Branch suits anyone who finds picking out bones a chore and families who want agujjim with kids at the table.

Asan agujjim, boneless style at Sinseong Agujjim Asan Branch
We ordered boneless monkfish stew (small) at spice level 1, two servings of fried rice, and a kids' pork cutlet at Sinseong Agujjim Asan Branch. I'd had agujjim (spicy braised monkfish) not long ago, and my mom said she wanted some too, so while we were in Asan I went looking for a spicy, delicious agujjim place — and that's how we ended up at Sinseong Agujjim!
Agujjim is delicious but picking the meat off the bones can get annoying, so of course we went with boneless!!‼️‼️ Bottom line: boneless agujjim + fried rice = combo of the century?✨ Plus we ordered a kids' pork cutlet for our little one, so the adults got agujjim and the kid got cutlet — a pretty satisfying menu lineup✨
Inside the restaurant and the spice levels

We went a little early so there were no other customers, which made for easy photos — but right around when we were finishing up, a huge crowd of older folks came pouring in!

I'm a total spice wimp so I went with level 1~!! But even level 1 was on the level of instant ramen,, if I'd ordered level 2 I might not have survived🥹

The dilemma: bone-in agujjim vs boneless

The first thing you have to decide when you go for agujjim is whether to get it bone-in or boneless. This time I figured easy eating wins, so we ordered the boneless agujjim (small)!! No need to pick the meat off piece by piece — you just dig in with the sauce right away, which is definitely more convenient~ And the sauce is really what makes agujjim. Eating the monkfish meat soaked in that spicy sauce makes you crave rice instantly!

Even the basic side dishes were so good,, the seaweed soup in particular was a work of art👍🏻 Our little one hasn't been starved for days or anything but she polished off two bowls, saying it was delicious! And as for the pork cutlet — her older sister fell asleep, so she ate the whole thing by herself;;

First time I've ever seen someone fall asleep mid-meal,,😗 Honestly~

Boneless agujjim loaded with monkfish roe
Eating the monkfish meat with that signature spicy sauce made for a great meal, and it worked well for a group too. Best of all, being boneless meant we ate fast lolㅋㅋㅋ No conversation getting cut off while picking out bones — just grab the meat, dip it in the sauce, done! If you're searching for good agujjim in Asan and want something easy to eat, the boneless option is worth considering✨

Usually when you order agujjim there's no roe, but this place must really love roe — they packed it in generously:)

There was also cheese and sweet potato rice cake in there, and it was so good!

What comes after agujjim!? Fried. rice.
There's a menu I absolutely never skip when eating agujjim. That's fried. rice. We ordered two servings! There's still sauce left after the stew, and it would be such a shame not to finish it off with fried rice,, even though we were already pretty full from the agujjim, once the fried rice arrived our chopsticks went right back in. Fried rice really is the finishing move for agujjim~~ka Boneless agujjim → fried rice, this combo is a genuine rule of life👍🏻

If you're bringing a kid: the kids' pork cutlet
Sinseong Agujjim Asan Branch has a kids' pork cutlet, so it was fine to bring our kid along. One of the best parts of this visit was being able to order the kids' cutlet alongside our agujjim! The adults ate agujjim, and for the kid we ordered the kids' pork cutlet — since agujjim is a spicy dish, visiting with a child can leave you wondering what they'll eat, but having the kids' cutlet on the menu made it easy to dine together.
It was a relief that it was a safe, universally loved pork cutlet:) Thanks to that, the adults could enjoy the agujjim in peace and the kid got a full meal from the cutlet🌈✨

Looking for agujjim in Asan
If you love agujjim you'll know — after eating, you always end up wanting to mix rice into the leftover sauce! For this visit to Sinseong Agujjim we ordered:
- Boneless agujjim
- Fried rice x2
- Kids' pork cutlet
That's what we ordered and ate, and after finishing the agujjim through to the fried rice, I felt like I was going to burst,,😗🩵 If picking bones is a hassle for you, I especially recommend the boneless agujjim! Next time you're craving agujjim in Asan, Sinseong Agujjim is worth a visit:)

When our little one sat there asleep, the owner said it was dangerous and brought over a chair, then even threw a plastic sheet over her worried she'd be coldㅋㅋㅋㅋ so thoughtful. Really appreciated it💖
