Suwon café for chocolate latte and yellow cheese cookies: Jo Hui-tak

In short

Jo Hui-tak Coffee is a café and bakery lab on Ajuro 47beon-gil near Ajou University in Suwon, Gyeonggi. A chocolate latte, a peach yogurt cake and a hwang cheese cookie (savory yellow cheddar cookie) were ordered to go at the kiosk: the latte was rich and smooth, and the salty, nutty cookie vanished on the spot. Jo Hui-tak Coffee looks small from the street but opens into a far roomier back area that works for studying or meeting friends.

On a nice fall day, I was looking for good coffee and dessert near Ajou University. Instead of the usual spot, I wanted to explore a new Ajou University coffee shop worth trying. That's how I found Jo Hui-tak Coffee (조희탁커피).

The sign at the entrance saying 'Plenty of seats inside :)' was oddly welcoming, and it drew me in for some reason. It looked small from outside, but I got curious about what kind of charm this Ajou coffee spot would show me.

Jo Hui-tak Coffee uses a kiosk next to the counter for ordering, and the menu was really varied — coffee, non-coffee drinks, tea, even sandwiches. The moment I walked in, a warm, cozy atmosphere greeted me.

The dessert corner especially was hard to look away from. The sign 'Only 100% dairy whipped cream used!' caught my eye immediately, and it somehow made me trust the place even more.

Cakes, tarts, cookies — the showcase was packed with desserts that all looked delicious.

How roomy is the back seating at Jo Hui-tak Coffee?

Unlike its outward appearance, the inside of Jo Hui-tak Coffee was really spacious and pleasant. Near the entrance there was a bar table perfect for sitting alone, with comfortable chairs.

The overall wood-tone interior with clean lighting gave it a warm, cozy feel that I really liked. It was quiet and calm, making it a great spot to focus on studying or reading.

Looking at the posters scattered around the café, you could really feel how serious they are about taste and quality.

Going further in, an even bigger space opened up. With various table shapes, it seemed like a comfortable fit for anyone — someone studying alone, friends chatting, or a group gathering.

The chocolate latte was rich and smooth, and the peach yogurt cake had a fresh, sweet flavor that was outstanding.

The hwang cheese cookie was salty yet savory in an addictive way, and I demolished it on the spot. Truly a taste worthy of an Ajou coffee spot.

I think the biggest appeal is being able to taste fresh desserts made by hand every morning.
