Today I want to introduce a place I found in Unjeong, Paju — a café I'd almost like to keep to myself, except it's already way too famous, haha. This is 'Pound Coffee.'

After sending my husband off to work in a rush and finishing a scheduled dermatology appointment, I suddenly, weirdly craved something sweet and something cold. A moment when I really needed to treat myself! I opened my phone and searched furiously for a café with a nice view nearby, and the one that showed up on my radar was Pound Coffee. It's close to GTX Unjeong Jungang Station, so it's easy to get to, and the reviews were so good that I grabbed the wheel full of anticipation.

Pound Coffee's exterior and the dog watering station

Pound Coffee Unjeong Main Branch is located at 20 Waseoksunhwan-ro 192beon-gil, Paju-si, Gyeonggi-do, and it's open every day from 11am to 9pm. The moment I arrived, the clean, sleek exterior stole my heart. Sleek black-framed floor-to-ceiling windows paired with a vintage-yet-refined logo gave the whole place an almost foreign feel.

What really caught my eye was a cute sign near the entrance reading 'Dog Watering Station'! They'd thoughtfully set out a water bowl for dogs stopping by on their walks. Such a sweet, warm touch — even before stepping inside, I could already feel the owner's kind personality, and it warmed my heart. For reference, this is a dog-friendly spot: dogs are welcome on a leash with proof of vaccination checked at the door.

Despite being an urban café, there's also a nicely set-up outdoor terrace beside the entrance, surrounded by greenery. On a breezy day, it's the perfect spot to sit on the terrace, sip a coffee, and just relax.

What is the seating and atmosphere like inside Pound Coffee?

Stepping inside Pound Coffee, it felt even more spacious and pleasant than it looked from outside. The high ceilings and floor-to-ceiling windows on every side gave it a wonderfully open feeling. The tree-lined street and blue sky outside looked almost like a painting in a frame, and just sitting there felt healing.

The interior is done in a white-and-wood palette, with tasteful posters, small plants, and stylish objects placed throughout — the kind of space where every angle is basically an Instagram shot. It was kept spotlessly clean, which was reassuring, and the comfortable chairs and big tables made it perfect either for spending time alone or chatting with friends.

Plain, chocolate and caramel financiers compared

Pound Coffee's biggest claim to fame is its pastries, baked fresh every single morning! The café has been serving Australian-style coffee alongside carefully made desserts since 2018. The showcase next to the counter displayed more than 15 kinds of baked treats, from canelés to financiers, all beautifully arranged and enough to make anyone happy just looking at them. This place is also famous as a 'latte spot,' and apparently the combination of coffee and pastries here is amazing.

Since my whole mission was a sweet dessert, I didn't hesitate — I tried the popular financiers in every flavor.

  • Plain: A classic done right! Crisp outside, moist inside, with rich buttery flavor filling my mouth. Pure nutty goodness!
  • Chocolate: Coated in sweet chocolate, the chocolate financier had a deep, rich cocoa taste. A textbook sweet-and-salty combo!
  • Caramel: Nutty and sweet with an added caramel aroma — I kept reaching for more.

Overall, none of the financiers were dry at all — they nailed that crisp-outside, moist-inside texture perfectly, and they were genuinely delicious. Arranged in a bowl, they looked so pretty it almost felt a shame to eat them. Since the flavor is nutty without being overly sweet, they even have gift packaging ready, great for giving to someone special.

Signature green tangerine ade, made with homemade preserve instead of syrup

Coming from the dermatologist, I was craving something refreshing and cold, so I ordered Pound Coffee's signature citron ade. Apparently, their citron ade uses the owner's own homemade citron preserve and doesn't include a single drop of syrup. Sure enough, when I got the drink, the cup was generously packed with citron slices and homemade preserve.

From the very first sip, I could tell the sweetness wasn't artificial — it was full of real, genuine fruit flavor, tart-sweet and refreshingly fizzy. Even people who dislike artificially sweet drinks could enjoy this one guilt-free — it felt clean and healthy. The pairing with the pastries was even better than I expected.
