Thai restaurant in Daegu's Gyodong: draft beer with kai phrai after
In short
Thai Yami is a Thai restaurant in Gyodong, Jung-gu, Daegu. Stopping by after work with a friend, the writer ordered the best-menu kai phrai and pad thai with two glasses of draft beer, plus a free corn salad side sweet enough to refill once. The dim, cozy interior is clean and the food comes out fast, making it a solid pick for both dinner and lunch.

A restaurant found among the bars of Gyodong

Thai Yami is a Thai food specialty restaurant located in Gyodong 💛 Gyodong is packed with bars, and since I can't drink much, I kept thinking it'd be nice to have a proper restaurant around here — and luckily Thai Yami was right there, so I paid a visit ✨

📍It's a 7-minute walk from Jungangno Station Exit 3. Easy to access, so you'll find it in no time. It's close to Gyodong's main street ✨
Interior mood and seating

Gyodong has plenty of stylish spots, but Thai Yami's vibe definitely holds its own ✨ It's dim enough that you might wonder whether this is a restaurant or a bar, and that atmosphere just builds up your excitement for the delicious Thai food to come 🫧
✔️ There are 4 seats at the regular tables

✔️ You can also sit at the bar table. The whole place was so clean and pleasant that my first impression walking in was already great
The menu and the corn salad side dish

📝 Let's look at the menu first. True to a Thai food specialty restaurant, there's a wide variety — spicy hot pot-style dishes, stir-fries, chicken, and more. We ordered kai phrai plus pad thai. Kai phrai had ⭐️⭐️⭐️ marked as the best menu, so I got curious.

The free side dishes were corn salad and biscuits, and that corn salad was sweet and so good? This is basically human feed for me.. 🤤 The staff were so kind that, shamelessly, I wanted to keep refilling the side dish.. I only refilled once, so don't judge me..

Since we came straight after work, we also ordered 2 glasses of draft beer, and it came in a nice cold glass — perfect for a humid summer day 🍻 A beer that sharpened the appetite even more 🤤

Kai phrai and pad thai: how did they taste?
The food came out really fast. After just 2-3 sips of beer, both dishes appeared right away. Look at that visual ✨

Aren't both the kai phrai and pad thai look mouthwatering 💦 Both are dishes you sprinkle lemon over, so just looking at them made me swallow hard.

Kai phrai
A handmade fried chicken salad you can only get at Thai Yami. The fried chicken, cheese powder, and a generous pile of salad went surprisingly well as a beer side. There were cherry tomatoes mixed in too, which kept it fresh and not too heavy ❤️
Pad thai
The signature dish, stir-fried noodles with a special aged sauce. Pad thai is the first thing that comes to mind with Thai food, and this famous dish was indeed delicious 💛

It had plump shrimp and generous chunks of meat, so if you ever visit Thai Yami, I recommend the pad thai.
Thai Yami, a restaurant in Gyodong, Daegu, was great for a dinner with a friend over a beer. I'd recommend visiting not just for dinner but for lunch too 💛
