Kids' jajangmyeon at a Milyang Chinese restaurant: Milyang Dol

We visited Milyang with our kid, and our little one, who loves jjapaghetti more than anything... whenever we ask what she wants to eat, it's "jajangmyeon! Jjapaghetti" hahaha... at this point should we have just gone and met the jajangmyeon boss?

So we settled on a place that sells the jajangmyeon (black bean noodles) our little one loves! Chinese restaurant menus have something for everyone from kids to adults, so we headed straight there. (Mom and dad, suffering from a hangover, wanted jjamppong, spicy seafood noodle soup...)

Where is Milyang Dol Jjamppong, and how long is the wait at opening?

Milyang Dol Jjamppong is near Milyang City Hall, right across from Milyang Cinema — a spot every local knows. Parking was so easy too~ a public parking lot right next door means parking's fully covered!

Turns out it's a famous local spot in Milyang! We didn't realize it going in since it was right at opening time, but coming out, we saw just how long the line had gotten... even my husband, who's from Milyang, said a place with a line like that must be good, haha.

It wasn't even lunchtime yet — just 10:30-10:40am — and the tables were already full...

Milyang Dol Jjamppong's self-serve bar has pickled radish, green onion kimchi, onion, black bean sauce, and more — and here, even the rice is free!!! They'll bring you ice too if you ask!

And the specialty here is the scorched-rice stone-plate jajangmyeon and jjamppong~~~ so you'd better not run out of rice!

Scorched-rice stone-plate jajangmyeon for two, and how to eat stone-plate jjamppong

What we ordered: scorched-rice stone-plate jajangmyeon (for 2) with a pork/chicken soup set, and a meat-loaded kids' jajangmyeon. Check out the visuals... the stone plate was seriously sizzling.

The main dish that day was the stone-plate jjamppong! It came out in a hot stone bowl, and the visuals grabbed my attention the moment it arrived. I liked that it stayed hot for a long time, and it's a menu worth trying at least once if you like jjamppong. Eating the broth and noodles together felt hearty enough to be a full meal on its own.

There was a how-to-eat guide posted on the wall! I followed along: cut the bean sprouts and noodles, eat the noodles first, then scrape up the scorched rice!

Wow... I loved that the noodles didn't get soggy... they were handmade, springy through and through... just perfect.

The kids' jajangmyeon we ordered for our child! The portion looked just right for a kid, and as expected, kids really dig in once the jajangmyeon arrives.

Our kid ate happily too, and I loved having a separate kids' menu for a family meal out. At Chinese restaurants with kids, you sometimes worry about spicy or strong-flavored dishes, but having a kids' jajangmyeon made ordering easy.

What comes in the pork and chicken soup set, plus two dipping sauces

Wow... the stone-plate jjamppong was loaded with seafood and toppings too~~~ absolutely perfect...

The set for two we ordered came with the stone-plate jjamppong plus the pork/chicken soup combo. I liked being able to taste a little bit of several things rather than just one dish. Especially when visiting with several people who often want different things, this kind of set menu is great for letting everyone enjoy a variety at once.

Two kinds of sauce too! Seasoned chicken sauce and pork cutlet sauce — just perfect.

Add a green grape ade on top and that's basically a totally satisfying, hearty meal, no cap!

Scraping up every last bit of the scorched rice stuck to the bottom of the stone plate made it feel like not just one meal a day but almost two... noodles and rice both. Ugh, I couldn't eat another bite — the portions are generous!

Baby food microwave, dish sterilizer and high chairs for kids

One thoughtful detail I noticed at Milyang Dol Jjamppong was that they had a separate microwave just for baby food and a dish sterilizer! Seeing them pull the kids' dishware out of that made me feel at ease as a mom — there's that slightly uneasy feeling when kids' dishes are just mixed in with everyone else's, you know...ha....

I'm not an overly particular mom, but somehow I still feel more careful about baby dishware, and this place was clean about it, plus a high chair on top. I really think this is a restaurant that could satisfy three generations dining together.

Right to the end, the owner even offered us yogurt as a nice touch. Wishing them all the success, seriously!

Candy, green tea, coffee and more were set out for guests to enjoy on the way out! Colorful candies gathered up, all of which went straight into our little one's mouth hahaha.

When is the best time to visit Milyang Dol Jjamppong?

(The wait when we left... was seriously long...) If you're going, I'd recommend timing it right at opening! Next time we'll have to bring the in-laws along too~

Milyang has plenty of sights, so it's a popular trip destination for families and couples. A lot of people are probably looking for good places to eat near Yeongnamnu Pavilion. And if you're the type who visits Geumsidang, one of Milyang's famous walking spots, and then looks for somewhere to eat, a place with a wide range of menu options is a solid choice.

Having plenty of menu options that both kids and adults can enjoy together made this a great pick for a family meal out. Thanks to the set menu letting us taste several dishes at once, we left that day well fed and satisfied. 😊
