Daegu Korean restaurant lunch with bossam: Uldong Bossam

I visited Uldong Bossam (울동보쌈), a place I had noticed on the way from Daegu Jung-gu Office toward Gyodong. I first went there for dinner with my boyfriend while looking for somewhere to take my parents, and I liked the home-style side dishes and comfortable interior. The next day, I returned with my parents for lunch, and they were satisfied too.

Where is Uldong Bossam, and what is parking like?

The address is 279 Gyeongsang-gamyeong-gil, first floor, Jung-gu, Daegu. It is on the way from Jung-gu Office to Gyodong, and the hours listed in the original post are 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. every day.

The restaurant is on the roadside, so it has no dedicated parking lot. The original post says that visitors can use the paid parking lots at Jung-gu Office and City Hall. I visited around 7 p.m. without making a separate reservation.

Is there seating for a meal with parents or for dining alone?

The interior was more spacious than I expected when I passed by outside. There were two four-person tables by the window, and they had a nice atmosphere on the rainy day. I wanted to sit there, but other guests were already using them.

There was also bar seating, which looked convenient for eating alone. It was hot and humid on the day I visited, but the air conditioning kept the interior cool.

Toward the back, there were seats separated like a private room. Since they were set farther inside, they looked suitable for families or groups who wanted to eat and talk together.

There was a passage leading to the restroom on the way to the tables in the back. The restroom was shared by men and women, but it was clean and tidy when I visited.

How much are the lunch bossam set and dinner bossam?

On my first visit, I ordered a medium Uldong Bossam for ₩39,000 because I wanted more meat. Bowls of rice were ₩1,000 each, and I ordered three. Orders were placed on the tablet at the table.

The bossam set was in the low ₩10,000 range. When I returned with my parents the next day, we had this set for lunch. The exact price of the set was not separately listed in the original post.

What side dishes came with the bossam?

The medium bossam ordered for dinner came with a full table of side dishes. The meat was tender without any unpleasant smell, and it went well with minari and dried radish. The soy sauce was made by grinding sesame seeds and adding soy sauce, giving it a nutty flavor.

I especially liked the dried radish among the side dishes and finished the portion that came out. The doenjang jjigae included brisket, and the broth had a pleasantly spicy kick.

The wrap vegetables were perilla leaves, napa cabbage, and lettuce. There were also seasoned bean sprouts, seasoned greens, water kimchi, and baek-kimchi, along with onion sauce, soy sauce, and chogochujang for dipping. My boyfriend especially liked wrapping the meat in napa cabbage.

The bossam was thinly sliced, so it was easy to eat. Being able to enjoy the tender meat with a variety of side dishes was why I wanted to return with my parents.

What other dishes and drinks are available besides bossam?

Besides bossam, the menu included suyuk hot pot, minari jeon, and potato jeon. The drinks included soju, liquor by the glass, and bottled liquor, but I did not drink during this visit.

When I visited, the jeon menu, including the potato jeon, was temporarily hidden on the tablet because there had been many orders earlier. If it does not appear on the tablet, ask the owner about it. The liquor corner near the entrance also had maesil tea for a refreshing drink after the meal.

At first, I had noticed Uldong Bossam as a restaurant for lunch in Dongin-dong, but I was satisfied with both the dinner bossam and the lunch set the following day. It suited a meal with my parents, who like home-style side dishes.
