Here’s my review of Hyangtaek Seongseo Keimyung University Branch, which I visited while looking for a neat, satisfying meal near Keimyung University’s main gate in Seongseo!

Hyangtaek Seongseo Keimyung University Branch in a neat wood-toned setting
I usually prefer Korean food that is easy on the stomach and served neatly, and this place caught my eye from afar with its tidy wood-toned exterior. True to the phrase written there, “A place that holds the aroma of our food,” it offered a carefully laid table that made me feel well looked after.

Inside, the atmosphere is warm and cozy, with wood tones throughout. The tables for two and four were arranged neatly,

and every table had wooden cutlery, a menu, and a clean water bottle, which gave me the impression that hygiene was well managed overall. It was quiet but comfortable, so it seemed easy to dine alone, while also being a lovely spot for friends or couples to come for a neat meal.

A varied menu, from Korean rice bowls to sides
Looking through the menu, I found thoughtful Korean-style meals and side dishes! There were grilled Spanish mackerel and gondre (Korean thistle) rice, eggplant doenjang (fermented soybean paste) rice topped with grilled eggplant and thick soybean paste, yukhoe bibimbap made with domestic beef round, spicy chamnamul greens and squid rice, and herring roe bibim noodles with perilla oil and beef brisket. The side dishes were substantial, too: grilled deodeok root and mushrooms, Hanpan Galbi ribs, Cheongsong-style chicken bulgogi, and Hanpan Beoseot mushrooms all looked like great companions to a main meal.

There was also a clear notice for a Naver receipt-review event. On weekdays only, excluding weekends and public holidays, you can request the review event when ordering and write a review with a photo to receive the ₩6,000 Hanpan Beoseot mushrooms for free. If you visit on a weekday, I recommend joining in and making sure to get the savory, golden pan-fried mushrooms, too.

Yukhoe bibimbap with egg yolk and sauce served separately
The main dish I chose that day was yukhoe bibimbap! After a short wait, it arrived as a neatly set meal in clean bowls.

A generous round mound of domestic beef-round yukhoe (seasoned raw beef) sat in the center of the bowl, surrounded by plenty of fresh, crisp lettuce. It looked appetizing at first glance.

What I especially liked was that the egg yolk and special gochujang (red chili paste) sauce came separately in small dishes. Being able to adjust the seasoning to my own taste felt very thoughtful. The basic sides were neatly arranged as well: warming savory soup, pickles to wake up the palate, salted seafood, and crisp roasted seaweed for wrapping everything up.

I gently placed the separately served yolk over the yukhoe, drizzled on a suitable amount of the red sauce, and mixed it with my spoon! When I moved the lettuce aside, crisp bean sprouts and rice were hiding underneath. There was more yukhoe than I expected, so there was plenty of meat mixed through every spoonful of rice and vegetables.

I took a big spoonful of the well-mixed yukhoe bibimbap, and the chewy, fresh raw beef went so well with the crunchy bean sprouts and lettuce. There was no unpleasant meat smell or fishiness at all; instead, a subtle, nutty beef flavor spread through my mouth. The sauce was not overly intense or sweet either, with just the right sweet-spicy kick and a deep flavor that I really enjoyed.

A finishing bite wrapped in roasted seaweed
Another specialty here is wrapping the yukhoe bibimbap in the roasted seaweed that comes as a basic side! The nutty seaweed flavor brought out even more of bibimbap’s savory depth, so I kept reaching for it. Sipping the warm, comforting soup throughout the meal made for a clean finish. Overall, the seasoning was not excessive and the fresh ingredients worked beautifully together, so I could enjoy every last spoonful without feeling heavy. Among the restaurants around Seongseo Keimyung University, this is just right for anyone looking for a proper, carefully prepared Korean table. I definitely recommend stopping by Hyangtaek Seongseo Keimyung University Branch when you want a filling yet wholesome meal.
