Gujwa, Jeju Korean restaurant with 13-dish set meal: Jongdal Sudatteul

In short

Jongdal Sudatteul is a second-generation Jeju set meal restaurant on Yongnuni Oreum-ro in Gujwa-eup, Jeju. After a Hallasan hike fell through, the writer drove around Gujwa, stopped in and ordered the 25,000-won Jeju set meal, which arrived as a 13-dish spread with braised mackerel, grilled hairtail, dombegogi (sliced boiled pork), seafood hot pot, soy-marinated abalone and soy crab. With free refills of banchan and soy crab at the self-serve bar, Jongdal Sudatteul felt well worth the price.

Hi, this is Kkongi :) My weekend Hallasan hike fell through because of the weather, so I ended up half-forced into a Jeju trip instead — haha. On Saturday the skies cleared up, and while driving around Gujwa I stumbled onto a Jeju set meal spot called Jongdal Sudatteul.

Turns out Jongdal Sudatteul has even appeared on TV shows and had various celebrities stop by near Yongnuni Oreum ?! Running under its second generation of owners since 2010 — another hidden gem discovered! *_<

Parking: drive 30m past the sign

Don't turn in as soon as you see the sign — keep going about 30m further and you'll find the parking lot entrance. There's a huge open lot, so parking is super convenient! It'd also make a great spot for group dinners or gatherings.

Inside Jongdal Sudatteul, and dining with kids

The interior was spotless, plain and simple. Since we visited shortly after opening, we were basically the first customers — the table count isn't small, and the spacing between tables was generous, so it never felt crowded. The owner greeted us warmly too :)

They even have 3 baby chairs ready, so it seems like a good spot to bring young kids along.

There were traces of visits from well-known figures like Shin Dong-yup and writer Huh Young-man on the walls.

What the 25,000-won Jeju set meal includes

Jongdal Sudatteul's menu was really varied. The signature dish is the 'Jeju set meal' at ₩25,000 per person. It felt a bit pricey at first glance, but that impression changed once the food arrived — haha. If you want a hearty, filling meal with lots of banchan, I'd recommend the Jeju set meal! There were also individual dishes you could order and mix — braised hairtail, dombegogi, grilled hairtail, grilled mackerel, grilled red snapper, and more. It was nice being able to pick according to your taste.

If you leave a photo review on Naver, they'll give you a bottle of 100% Gujwa carrot juice, which is apparently famous around Gujwa!! Perfect dessert after the meal 👍

The 13-dish spread arrives

Ta-da~~ Even at a glance, the Jeju set meal looked incredibly generous!!! It came as a 13-dish spread including braised mackerel, grilled hairtail, dombegogi, seafood hot pot, abalone jang, crab, and leafy greens for wraps. Every side dish was solid, and the seasoning wasn't heavy-handed — everything tasted great.

Free refills of banchan and soy crab at the self-serve bar

There's also a self-serve bar where you can refill both the side dishes and the soy crab as much as you like. Honestly you could finish a whole bowl of rice on the banchan alone. The self-serve bar was also very clean and tidy, haha.

Grilled hairtail and a crab-packed seafood hot pot

The hairtail itself was clearly a big cut. The grilled hairtail comes as one piece per person, and it looked like it was dusted in batter before grilling — crispy outside, tender inside, done just right. The seafood hot pot was loaded with blue crab, giving it that savory, spicy kick you know? With radish, squash, tofu and more packed in, it had a deep flavor that was addictive. It was my sibling's top pick of the meal, haha.

Braised mackerel, swappable for braised hairtail

The main dish, braised mackerel! You can swap it for braised hairtail for just ₩4,000 extra per person! I debated switching, but decided against it since I hadn't had mackerel in a while! The sauce itself was insanely good, and the mackerel flesh was thick with zero fishy taste — well-seasoned and truly full of umami.

Well-seasoned braised mackerel

A flavor that made it obvious why it's been on TV!! There was aged kimchi on the side too, and wrapping the mackerel in it made it a legendary rice thief, haha.

Dombegogi and soy-marinated abalone

The dombegogi (boiled pork slices) also came sliced thick, and dipping it in salt gave a mouthful of moist, chewy texture. The abalone jang had large, chewy abalone that was well-seasoned all the way through. Total rice thief!!!

With such a great lineup of side dishes, letting us try all kinds of things to match our taste, this turned out to be a really satisfying Jongdal-ri restaurant in Jeju.

100% Gujwa carrot juice to finish

I joined the receipt review event and got the 100% Gujwa carrot juice too~~ I expected it to taste like harsh green juice or something, but there was none of that at all — it was actually sweet!? Really proved that Gujwa carrots live up to their reputation 👍👍

A great Jeju set meal spot in Gujwa, and a solid Jongdal-ri restaurant to bring your parents to as well — highly, highly recommend Jongdal Sudatteul~!!
