Daegu coffee shop for Yirgacheffe hand-drip and peppermint tea: Dento

In short

Dento is a new brunch café on the Bongsan-dong coffee street in Jung-gu, Daegu. On a weekday morning the writer and her husband ordered iced Ethiopia Yirgacheffe hand-drip coffee, hot peppermint tea and a plate of five bite-size open sandwiches, and the smoked salmon with avocado and the truffle cream were the best of the five. With fresh flowers on every table and a hotel-like mood, Dento suits brunch by day and a glass of wine in the evening.

Photo from a visit to Dento, a brunch café in Bongsan-dong, Daegu

My mom has an officetel near Banwoldang downtown, so I went to look around the area and discovered the hot Bongsan-dong coffee street packed with brunch cafés — and lo and behold, there was a brand-new café I hadn't seen before?

The exterior looked clean and quiet, so I thought it'd be perfect for brunch today — couldn't pass it by, so my husband and I hurried over to check out this café called 'Dento'.

Parking at Dento: where do you leave the car?

Dento doesn't have its own parking lot, and like every café on this street it's in a child protection zone, so I'd recommend parking in a nearby public lot and walking over — they say you can technically park in the alley right next to the café, but it's likely full of residents' cars already, so just relax and park nearby, haha.

Fresh flowers on every table: Dento's hotel-like mood

The moment I walked in I was overwhelmed by the hotel-like atmosphere. Pretty fresh flowers sit on every table — not just lovely to look at, the fragrance was amazing too.

Vases, lighting and other props decorating Dento

The vases, the cutlery, the lighting and other little props scattered around the café were all stylish and pretty, so it was fun just looking around.

Photos come out great from any angle since the lighting is so good — natural light really does make photos look pretty! It's a brunch café for coffee during the day and sells wine in the evening, so it's a moody spot good for a date too :)

Ethiopia Yirgacheffe hand-drip: how clean is the acidity?

Dento's hand-drip coffee seems to change daily, and on the day I visited they had Ethiopia Yirgacheffe beans brewed as hand-drip — the acidity was genuinely so clean and lovely!! I liked it so much I ended up looking up the beans separately — total my-style coffee!!

They also had house-made lemonade, peach oolong tea, and Belgian beer. Wines suited for a fancy night were lined up in a variety as well.

The owner must have an art background — the tastefully designed interior meant every seat looked pretty. The furniture and props were all so pretty that I kept taking photos, at this new brunch café near Banwoldang Station, Dento!

What we ordered at Dento: hand-drip, peppermint tea and open sandwiches

I ordered one iced hand-drip coffee, one warm peppermint tea, and the bite-size open sandwiches.

While waiting for the food I wandered around the quiet café taking a look at every corner. I really wanted to come back with friends next time, so I diligently took photos and videos to share on KakaoTalk, haha.

The open sandwiches I'd been looking forward to were truly bite-sized! If you have a small mouth, you might split each one into two or three bites, haha. We were told to eat from left to right, so we tasted them one by one that way.

The coffee and tea were also prepared with real care — you could feel the affection poured into each cup :)

Even the tea coaster was totally my taste, so I pulled out my camera right away to photograph it.

Which of Dento's five open sandwiches was my favorite?

All five flavors of the open sandwiches were delicious, but personally the one with avocado and smoked salmon on top was my favorite!!

The eggplant and broccoli open sandwich was also delicious, and I kept wondering what sauce it was! Paprika sauce maybe? I should've just asked!!

And the truffle cream sandwich they recommended eating last, well — total sandwich of my life! If you made this bigger with jambon and arugula added and sold it, I'd buy it every single day ><ㅋ

The peppermint tea was mild too — steeped just the right amount, not too strong, with an aroma and flavor that paired perfectly with the sandwiches.

I'm a mountain-climbing friend who loves acidic beans, so I drank this coffee incredibly happily. Every sip left the coffee aroma lingering in my mouth — truly so charming.

Inside Dento, quiet on a weekday morning

Weekday morning or evening: which is the better time to visit Dento?

Dento, the new brunch café near Banwoldang Station, was great for a quiet coffee on a weekday morning. It was also nice for a light brunch-slash-lunch with just one sandwich! In the evening when the lights come on it seems like it'll turn into an even more gorgeous space — next time I'm out at Banwoldang I want to stop by for a glass of wine.
