Why we chose Phodam Jeonju City Hall Branch for lunch in Jeonju

Hi, this is Dorahee :) I was traveling around Jeonju with my mom and daughter, and when it came to lunch I didn't want to keep eating Korean food the whole trip — I wanted something a bit different, so we headed to Phodam Jeonju City Hall Branch.

Since it was a walking-heavy itinerary this trip, I kept craving warm broth, and my mom also wanted something easy on the stomach, so we settled on pho (Vietnamese rice noodle soup).

The inside was bigger and cleaner than I expected. The tables weren't cramped either, so my mom, my daughter and I could sit comfortably for lunch, and the food came out fast, which worked well for a busy travel schedule.

The four dishes we ordered at Phodam and what they cost

Bulgogi banh mi sandwich, 7,900 won

A baguette that's crispy outside and soft inside, packed with bulgogi (marinated grilled beef) and vegetables. It was light yet filling, good for brunch or a snack, and worked well shared alongside the other dishes.

Fully handmade Phodam banh xeo (savoury rice crepe), 9,900 won

A golden, crispy shell packed generously with bean sprouts and other ingredients — the crunchy-outside, crisp-inside texture combo was the appeal. The price was reasonable too, making it easy to order as a side.

Brisket beef pho (rice noodle soup), 8,900 won

A bowl topped with brisket beef in a broth simmered from 1+ grade Korean beef bone. The broth was deep yet clean, easy to eat without feeling heavy, and made for a warm, satisfying meal.

Bun cha Saigon (grilled pork with cold noodles), 9,900 won

A dish where you enjoy rice noodles, meat, and vegetables together, brightened with lemon and Phodam's special nuoc mam sauce for a sweet-tangy flavor. It refreshed the palate nicely between other dishes, and you can add cilantro to taste.

How is the brisket beef pho broth at Phodam?

Starting with the pho! The broth looked clear but tasted deeper and richer than expected. It wasn't greasy or intense — just clean — so even after eating a lot on the trip, it went down easily.

The noodles were soft and the beef was generous, so it felt hearty. My mom liked how clean the broth was and ate it happily, so this was a successful pick haha.

Bun cha Saigon as a palate changer between bites

Bun cha was fun to eat, combining meat and vegetables together. Meat alone can feel heavy, but eating it with fresh vegetables made it much lighter.

Dipping it in the sauce and eating it with the rice noodles added a sweet-tangy note that kept me reaching for more. When ordering several dishes together, this was great for switching up flavors in between.

Banh xeo and banh mi: the dishes my mom liked most

The banh xeo stood out visually right away! Inside the golden, crispy shell were bean sprouts and various ingredients, generously packed. Crispy outside, crunchy vegetables inside — the texture combo was great.

Wrapped with lettuce and vegetables and dipped in sauce, it was lighter than expected, and my mom enjoyed it a lot. It was also just right for three people to share.

Last up was the banh mi! The baguette was packed full of meat and vegetables, so each bite delivered multiple textures at once. The bread was crispy outside and soft inside, and the salty meat paired well with the crunchy vegetables.

It was great to share as a side when pho alone felt like it wasn't enough, but it was hearty enough that one alone could be a full meal.

Ordering a range from pho to bun cha, banh xeo, and banh mi and sharing them all, it felt like we properly enjoyed Vietnamese food in one sitting.

Is Phodam Jeonju City Hall Branch a good fit for three generations?

My daughter loved the warm, clean pho the most, while my mom really enjoyed the crispy banh xeo and banh mi. Even though three generations came together, it was nice that each of us could find a dish we liked.
