In short
Choi Budae Jjigae is a budae-jjigae (Korean army stew) restaurant on Ojeong-ro 10-gil in Ojeong, Yangju, Gyeonggi. The order was the bujji-mari set (army stew with a rolled egg), one extra serving of budae-jjigae and ramyeon noodles, and Choi Budae Jjigae also brought icy dongchimi (radish water kimchi) and a broth refill for boiling the noodles at the end. Today I want to share my visit to Choi Budae Jjigae (최부대찌개), a neat and hearty budae-jjigae (army stew) specialty restaurant in Ojeong-dong, Yangju! What Choi Budae Jjigae looks like from outside

The exterior of Choi Budae Jjigae is clean and the sign stands out, so you can spot it from a distance! The area around the entrance is kept tidy, which builds confidence in hygiene even before you step inside! Through the front glass windows you can see a pleasant interior, which makes it a great impression for families or groups looking for a place to meet!

Solo dining is available and they also have naengmyeon (cold noodles)!!
Inside Choi Budae Jjigae: what's on the self-serve bar?
The interior of Choi Budae Jjigae is spacious, pleasant, and tidy! The tables are spaced generously apart, making it a great fit for group gatherings, family meals, or a hearty dinner!

There's a self-serve bar on one side, so you can comfortably grab more side dishes without feeling awkward about it!

The self-serve bar has stir-fried fish cake, pickled radish, and kimchi neatly covered with hygiene lids, and the tongs are also kept clean! There's a rice cooker right beside it so you can enjoy freshly cooked warm rice as much as you like!

If you need an apron, you can just grab one and use it! They even have plum tea and a brewed coffee machine for dessert, showing thoughtful care for customers!
What we ordered: bujji-mari set, extra army stew, ramyeon noodles

- Budae-jjigae roll
- Extra single serving of budae-jjigae
- Ramyeon noodles
What comes with the meal at Choi Budae Jjigae

Once you sit down, a hearty set of basic side dishes is laid out! There's pickled radish with a crunchy texture and a spicy-sweet seasoning that's hard to resist, and stir-fried fish cake, savory enough that your chopsticks keep reaching for it!
Dongchimi, the rolled egg and how the army stew broth tastes

A refreshing, crunchy dongchimi (watery radish kimchi) is served alongside, and with icy shards floating in the broth, it perfectly tames the spiciness of the stew — an amazing pairing! The rice also comes in a big bowl, just right for mixing into the stew!

The rolled egg wins you over once with its thickness and twice with its looks! Fluffy in texture and topped generously with ketchup and mustard sauce, it fills your mouth with savory and tangy flavor at once! The spicy stew broth and the savory rolled egg go really well together!
At first, the owner stirs the seasoning in for you!

The main dish, budae-jjigae, comes out with the pot piled high with ham, sausage, minced meat, tofu, glass noodles, and vegetables! As the broth bubbles and deepens, one spoonful reveals a deep, spicy flavor that's outstanding!

Without being overly harsh, the umami flavor really clings to your palate, making it great with rice and just as great as a drinking snack — I'd strongly recommend it as a pairing with drinks if you're looking for an Ojeong drinking spot!

The rice and rolled egg are totally home-cooking style!!
The finish: a broth refill, then ramyeon noodles in the pot

After eating your way through most of the stew's ingredients, adding ramyeon noodles is a must!

Refill the broth, add the ramyeon noodles, and boil it up — the chewy noodles soak in the rich broth, giving you a perfect meal all the way to the last bite!

Eating the leftover ham together with the ramyeon noodles is a must!
Is Choi Budae Jjigae in Yangju worth a visit?
Choi Budae Jjigae is an Ojeong restaurant where everything came together perfectly — deep broth flavor, a solid spread, a clean self-serve bar, and even dessert service! Thanks to its spacious interior, it's also very satisfying as a spot for an evening gathering or a family meal! If you want a hearty meal or a drink paired with spicy budae-jjigae, rolled egg, and ramyeon noodles, I highly recommend giving it a visit!
