Custom order toro belly and ricotta salmon sushi at Mikado Sushi

In short

Mikado Sushi Chungnam Seosan Branch is a flat ₩2,100-per-plate conveyor-belt sushi restaurant in Seokrim-dong, Seosan. On a late weekday lunch visit, the writer added swordfish belly, bluefin tuna belly, ricotta cheese salmon sushi, and yukhoe sushi through individual post-it orders, and the freshly-made plates were far better than the ones on the rail. At Mikado Sushi, custom ordering is the answer.

Sushi plates at Mikado Sushi in Seosan

When I'm seriously craving sushi (which happens a lot...).

This is the place: Mikado Sushi in Seosan. 📢 Every plate at Mikado Sushi is ₩2,100!

Flat ₩2,100 conveyor-belt sushi plate

If you like sushi, a flat-price conveyor-belt place like this is a must. Sushi really is something you never get tired of eating...!

👉 This time I ordered individually and ate a lot more of the fancier(?) sushi than usual!

Is there a wait for weekend lunch?

⭕ If you're coming at a peak time like weekend lunch, make sure to check the waiting status on Catch Table and reserve a spot before you head out. That waiting area is empty right now, but on weekends it's always packed haha. I went on a late weekday lunch so luckily there was no wait — off I went! (Though days like that aren't that common...)

The first time I came to Mikado Sushi, I just grabbed whatever looked good, but it helps to roughly remember the names so you can order without waiting.

Menu board for soba, ramen and other add-on items

People add soba or ramen more often than you'd think, too. 🗨️ I tend to stick to just sushi haha.

Review of a Seosan sushi favorite, Mikado Sushi

After grabbing a table, I set up the soup broth first. The pickled radish, pickled peppers, and pickled ginger that go with sushi pass by on the rail often, so just grab them as they go by.

I started off light(?) with a few plates to warm up. Setting up soy sauce, wasabi, and rakkyo (pickled shallots) in advance is essential too.

Ankimo sushi topped with gamtae seaweed

Ankimo (monkfish liver). Paired with gamtae (seasoned seaweed). If you like uni, you can't pass up ankimo. The amount of uni on it was super generous too.

How to eat sushi even better here — custom ordering

One trick to eating better sushi at Mikado Sushi: custom ordering.

Table with post-it notes for custom ordering
Order note with table number and sushi type written on it
  • ✔️ Method 1. Write your table number and the sushi type on the post-it note on the table and hand it in.
  • ✔️ Method 2. If there are just a few of you, you can order out loud too. e.g. "Two swordfish belly, please"
Custom-ordered salmon belly sushi

I really like salmon, and since I didn't see salmon sushi on the rail, I custom-ordered both salmon belly and ricotta cheese salmon sushi!

Freshly made ricotta cheese salmon sushi

When you order individually like this, they make it fresh on the spot, so it feels a lot fresher and tastier haha.

Live-fish aged kimchi sushi plate

If you like tempura, time it right and you can get it nice and hot, and the live-fish mookeunji (aged kimchi) sushi is great when you want a little palate refresh.

Bacon shrimp sushi is a safe favorite my partner Gomgomi likes since he loves raw shrimp. They also have soy sauce shrimp sushi and raw shrimp sushi, so shrimp lovers will especially enjoy Mikado Sushi.

Dessert cake and fruit plates

The sushi selection is quite varied, and 👉 there are also 2-3 kinds of cake, macarons, and fruit like pineapple and orange, so it's nice for dessert or a palate cleanser too.

The oranges only look like they have peel on — they've already sliced between the flesh and peel, so they're super easy to eat haha.

My personal sushi favorites

Close-up of yuk-sashimi beef tartare sushi

Yuk-sashimi (beef tartare) sushi. Marbled, savory beef tartare — really soft with great flavor.

Ricotta cheese salmon sushi. This... is completely different from regular salmon sushi...! 👉 The creamy texture of salmon plus ricotta cheese equals a perfect combo.

⭕ The moment you bite in, a cherry tomato pops and cuts through the richness... it was so good I was genuinely surprised..! 🗨️ Totally my type, so I think I alone ate about 4 plates of it haha.

Yukhoe sushi piled with more beef tartare than rice

Yukhoe (beef tartare) sushi. This was Gomgomi's favorite in particular. We kept custom-ordering this, and the yukhoe is way more than the rice haha. The moment it hits your mouth, happy.

Stacked sushi plates on the table

Me hooked on the ricotta cheese salmon sushi, Gomgomi hooked on the yukhoe sushi... and then a champion sushi that broke both their winning streaks...

Menu board listing swordfish belly and bluefin tuna belly

Swordfish belly, bluefin tuna belly. It was so good I even took a photo of the menu board so I wouldn't forget to order it again next time haha.

Four pieces of swordfish belly and bluefin tuna belly sushi

Two of each, so ₩8,400 worth of plates total...! 👉 The swordfish belly is nice and thick, and you can see the marbling spread evenly through the bluefin tuna belly, right...?

The belly sushi itself is already delicious, but since they make it fresh on the spot, it's beyond delicious...!

We said, let's each order one more plate of whatever we want! So I ordered 🔻 my last bluefin tuna belly.

An extra-large final piece of bluefin tuna belly sushi

Did they know it was the last dish? They gave me an extra-huge piece of bluefin tuna haha. Basically one piece that was like 1.5 pieces!

Just on Gomgomi's side alone, this much piled up haha. My spot had a huge pile too... I need to lose weight, but Mikado Sushi keeps getting in the way...

This time I didn't think about the price at all and just ate everything I really wanted haha. Because of that, five out of five stars! If you're headed to Mikado Sushi, definitely try custom ordering.
