Hong-i-jip is a charcoal-grilled pork rib chain spread mainly across Gyeongnam, Busan, and Ulsan — turns out it's quite famous in the Yeongnam region.

I came in with high expectations. I'd searched around beforehand and honestly couldn't wait to dig in — I was practically bouncing on my feet.

Inside Hong-i-jip Ilgwang: the room and the side dish setup
The atmosphere at Hong-i-jip Ilgwang was bright, and it seemed to be run by a young couple who greeted us so kindly that I felt great the moment I walked in.

The clean interior caught my eye as soon as I walked in. The banchan (side dishes) in the basic table setting were especially neat and perfectly seasoned, so my chopsticks kept reaching for them.

The self-bar was also well stocked, so we had a great start to the meal even before the main meat arrived.

The self-bar at Hong-i-jip Ilgwang is stocked like a buffet
I was genuinely surprised by the self-bar set up on one side of Hong-i-jip Ilgwang. Usually a self-bar at a BBQ restaurant just has lettuce, garlic, and ssamjang (dipping sauce), right?

But it was packed with all kinds of side dishes and extras, like being at a buffet. Every single item was neatly kept full — it was fun just to look at!

1kg of pork galbi plus 3 extra servings: about 2kg for four
We ordered 1kg of pork ribs and cold noodles. I was shocked looking at the menu — the value for money was incredible!
I found out later that everyone loved it so much that we ended up adding 3 more servings!!! We ate over 2 geun (about 1.2kg extra) ☺️

Why Hong-i-jip Ilgwang works for family gatherings: parking and private seating
There's also a separate private space, which made it a great spot for a family gathering.

We drove there, and the parking was well set up, which made things convenient from the start.

The cheongyang chili pickle side dish especially was so good that I kept exclaiming over it as I ate.

How the charcoal-grilled marinated pork ribs taste
For four people to enjoy a hearty meal, we ordered 1kg of marinated pork ribs.

With a subtle charcoal aroma soaked in and juices bursting out with every bite, the texture was pure art.
The marinade wasn't overly spicy or sweet — it had a clean flavor, so everyone could enjoy it down to the very last piece without getting tired of it.

Pork galbi with cold buckwheat noodles (mul naengmyeon)
Cold noodles are the best sidekick to ribs 💚 The chilled, clear broth with slushy ice bits felt like it perfectly washed away any greasiness left from the meat. Wrapping a well-grilled piece of rib with the noodles was a 100-point combo.

Free soybean paste stew with a Naver reservation, plus a bowl of rice
Since we'd booked through Naver, they told us to use our free soybean paste stew coupon, so we got to try that too 💛 I wondered if we even deserved such generous treatment — it was so delicious.

Ordering rice also came with a free side dish haha — I was touched by how thoughtful they were with all these little extras.
