Aewol has so many pretty cafés and restaurants that it's always hard to decide where to go, haha. Lunch especially tends to fall in the middle of a sightseeing day, so I like something filling but not too heavy.

That's exactly why noodles make such a great lunch pick on a Jeju trip. And you can't talk about Jeju without mentioning pork noodle soup :)! So a lot of people are probably looking for Aewol pork noodles, and Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch had a great range of noodle dishes to choose from depending on your mood.

The sea-view tables at Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch

Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch is a restaurant where you can eat noodles with the Aewol sea right there through the window. I've been to plenty of ocean-view cafés in Jeju, but getting to properly see the sea while actually having a meal was such a treat.

The sea around Aewol in particular just makes you feel good the moment you look at it on a nice day, haha. Eating good food with the Jeju sea in view outside really put me in vacation mode!

I always say taste matters most when picking a place to eat, but in Jeju, a good view really bumps up the whole experience. Photos come out prettier too, and my eyes were happy the entire meal :)!

So if you're looking for a lunch spot in Aewol where you can enjoy the atmosphere along with the food, going with an ocean-view restaurant like this one is a great call.

Self-serve bar and origin labeling

On top of that, this Aewol lunch spot had a super clean self-serve bar, which was reassuring. Origin labeling was neat and clear too — nice to be able to trust what you're eating even while traveling.

Dongchimi bibim noodles: the hot-day pick

One of the dishes I especially enjoyed this time was the dongchimi bibim noodles!

Just the name makes you expect something cool and tangy?! It was scorching hot when we visited, so that sour flavor really pulled me in. Bibim noodles are already mouthwatering on their own, and adding dongchimi made it totally refreshing! Great menu pick.

Especially when you're eating a lot of different things on a Jeju trip, sometimes lunch calls for something light and refreshing — and this hit the spot exactly :)!

It's the kind of noodle dish you can slurp down easily, but it still feels like a proper meal. I personally love noodle dishes so I really enjoyed it, haha. And the pork noodle soup was amazing too — huge portion, and the quality was on another level...

Adding tteokgalbi to a bowl of noodles

The tteokgalbi (grilled short rib patties) we ordered alongside was a crowd-pleaser too! Noodles alone are great, but if you feel like something's slightly missing, ordering tteokgalbi with it makes a really solid combo :)! Bibim noodles with meat especially — need I say more, haha.

Eating a bite of tteokgalbi between spoonfuls of the tangy, cool noodles worked so well together. If you're visiting with a group, ordering different noodle dishes each and sharing one tteokgalbi in the middle sounds like a great plan! And if you're visiting with kids, it's handy to have a side dish the adults can share while eating their noodles.

We enjoyed it so much I could totally see why it's a popular dish :)!

A menu that suits a table with different tastes

Noodles just taste even better when you're eating them in Jeju, haha. Aewol pork noodles are the kind of dish people seek out at least once on a Jeju trip, and Handam Guksu has enough options that everyone in your group can pick something they like.

Someone might want a warm, hearty broth, and someone else — like me — might want cool, tangy bibim noodles. Add tteokgalbi as a side and you've got a pretty filling meal!

Mala pork noodles on the next visit

This could be useful not just for travelers but also for anyone in the area looking for a spot locals actually eat at in Aewol :)! And while looking at the menu, one item really caught my eye — mala pork noodles! I was so curious about this one, haha. Two strong-flavored dishes meeting in one bowl — I can't quite picture what it tastes like, but somehow I feel like it'll be good. We were busy with other dishes this time so we didn't order it, but next time I visit Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch, mala pork noodles is the first thing I'm ordering :)!

If you prefer something a bit different from the usual dishes, it could be fun to give it a try. I want to try it myself too, so I've already saved it for my next visit, haha.

Gwakji to Handam: fitting Handam Guksu into an Aewol day

There's so much to see around Aewol in a single day. It's a great walk from Gwakji toward Handam along the coast, with plenty of cafés nearby too, which is why it's a popular part of Jeju travel routes. I'd really recommend Handam Guksu Gwakji Aewol Branch! Haha.

On Jeju trips, I much prefer a restaurant where I can soak in the Jeju atmosphere during the meal, rather than just eating and leaving. That's exactly what made the ocean view here such a big draw. Glancing at the sea while waiting for food, glancing at the sea between bites of noodles, haha — isn't that the fun of eating in Jeju :)!

They even give you snacks like this for writing a receipt review — such a thoughtful touch. The owner was really kind, haha. Totally great.
