Jongno theater for a 90-minute adults-only rom-com: Nine Theater

Over the weekend, I headed to Daehangno for a different kind of date night and caught the adults-only romantic comedy <Suspicious PT Shop>, which has been getting quite the buzz lately.

Nine Theater near Hyehwa Station

Nine Theater (나인 씨어터), where the show is staged, is very close to Exit 2 of Hyehwa Station, so it was wonderfully easy to get to. The playful, steamy atmosphere was already noticeable at the entrance, and it had me excited before the show even began.

This play is the sequel—and official Season 2—of the popular <Suspicious Hair Salon>, which received lots of love in its previous season.

Set in the same “Suspicious” universe as the previous work, it moves the setting from a hair salon to the familiar yet secretive space of a PT shop, or personal-training gym, for an even more expanded story.

The bizarre incidents unfolding in this everyday setting flowed together so smoothly that it was seriously immersive.

The photo zone in front of the theater even had cute exercise equipment set up, so it looked perfect for taking pictures!

A steamy PT-shop world and the actors’ movement

True to its ages-19-and-over rating, the level of heat and the staging were both very bold and polished. It perfectly blends the relatable modern concerns of exercise and self-care with a precarious romantic front line between men and women, plus an intriguing tension.

It goes beyond jokes traded in dialogue alone: the actors’ appealing physiques, vivid movement, and solid physical acting had laughter bursting out scene after scene.

Comfortable for all 90 minutes

Daehangno theaters can sometimes have hard, uncomfortable chairs, but the seats at Nine Theater were so soft and comfortable that I never felt uncomfortable throughout the show~

Cheers and roaring laughter broke out throughout the audience whenever the bold, frank lines came flying, and I was so absorbed that I had no idea where those 90 minutes went.

The spot-on humor and stimulation it offers to anyone tired of predictable romantic comedies, or couples needing a change of pace together, really stood out.

An adults-only rom-com that connects with its audience

<Suspicious PT Shop> is a recommended Daehangno play with cheerful laughs, refreshing-to-watch passionate performances from the cast, and a distinctive adults-only storyline.

In particular, the actors’ perfect chemistry and crisp delivery of their bold lines greatly heightened the immersion. Their natural exchanges and playful back-and-forth with the audience throughout the show let me feel the vivid charm unique to a small theater 200%. Combined with the secretive yet comic PT-shop-style staging, I simply couldn’t look away.

It was such a sure-fire refresher from everyday routine that my husband and I kept bringing up favorite scenes and laughing long after we left.
