Making a wax-carved ring at Munak in Yeonsinnae
I had the chance to make a ring myself, so I visited with lots of excitement. I took a wax-carving one-day class at Munak (무낙), a jewelry workshop in Yeonsinnae!

The entire space was clean and neatly organized, and the professional jeweler’s benches blended beautifully with the charming little decorative touches. It felt like such a lovely studio.

A wax-carving class that beginners can easily follow
There were so many good things about trying it myself. First of all, the instructor kindly explained everything step by step, from the basic principles of wax carving to how to use the tools, so even beginners could follow along easily. Even if I made a mistake, she carefully refined it and coached me right beside me, so I could work without any pressure.

Time spent carving soft blue wax
Rather than carving hard metal as in typical silverwork, this method shapes soft wax, so even people who are not particularly handy can make their own ring without feeling intimidated. Measuring with vernier calipers and steadily shaving away the wax was such a soothing experience in itself.

How does a wax ring become a silver ring?
The blue wax ring that I carefully shaped with my preferred angles and textures goes through silver casting at the studio, followed by delicate finishing, and I can collect it later as a completed silver ring. The most appealing part was being able to own a truly one-of-a-kind piece of jewelry containing all of my own time and touch.

Even seeing blue wax dust on my hands gave me a satisfying feeling that I was working hard to create something. The wax I shaped with care is cast in silver at the studio, neatly finished, and then given to me as the final piece. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone who wants to own special jewelry of their own or is looking for an unusual date idea.

Comfortable focus in a wood-toned workshop
The warm, cozy wood-toned interior was so impressive. The neatly organized workbenches and charming decorative objects came together to create a snug atmosphere. Thanks to the soft, warm lighting and calm mood, I felt so relaxed throughout the class and could focus completely on my work.

The soft lighting and peaceful atmosphere kept me relaxed throughout the class and helped me become even more absorbed in the work. Various silver jewelry pieces with the studio’s own sensibility were displayed along one side, too, and browsing them was a pleasure.

As I looked closely at each handmade piece, ideas for the kind of ring I wanted to design in this workshop kept popping up. It was wonderful to get so much inspiration.

It was such a fulfilling time, and now I can hardly wait for my ring to come back beautifully finished in silver. If you want to make a special memory near Yeonsinnae, be sure to visit Munak at least once.
