Songpa Korean restaurant for beef intestines and tangy rice: Jinseong

In short

Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang Bangi Direct Branch is a Korean restaurant in Songpa, Seoul, serving Korean beef intestines and large intestine. The ₩19,000 intestines, tangy homemade kimchi, minari sauce, and ₩9,000 rice bowl made a great combination, and the weekend line moved quickly. Verdict: a satisfying place to finish a day around Jamsil.

I had an errand at Jamsil Lotte Mall, then came to nearby Bangi Food Alley for dinner. I love gopchang (beef small intestine) and daechang (beef large intestine), so they were my pick for a weekend dinner.

Bangi Food Alley is a 10-minute walk from Lotte World Mall. It is a restaurant-filled food street.

Jinseong Hanwoo Gopchang, on the first floor at the middle intersection of Bangi Food Alley, was easy to find. There are waiting chairs outside.

We timed it for around 6 p.m., and a few groups were already waiting. You write your name on the waiting list in the window. It was packed, but turnover was quick, so we did not wait long before getting in.

A lively weekend-evening dining room

There were lots of round tables with built-in burners, and it was bustling with weekend dinner guests. A place like this needs that crowd for the atmosphere to come alive. It really gave off popular-restaurant vibes, too.

First up were the basic sauces and seasoned chives.

They say the best items are the Korean beef gopchang and kkakdugi rice. The two of us ordered Korean beef gopchang for ₩19,000, Korean beef daechang for ₩19,000, and kkakdugi pickled-garlic rice for ₩9,000. The minari pickled-garlic sauce comes with unlimited refills.

Notice of the restaurant's TV appearances

It seems to be a popular restaurant that has appeared on TV several times.

Minari pickled-garlic sauce

Doesn't this minari pickled-garlic sauce look so delicious just from the photo? It is loaded with minari, Cheongyang chili peppers, scallions, garlic, chili powder, and more in a soy-vinegar sauce, cutting right through the richness of the gopchang and daechang. It was a little strongly tangy for my taste, but perfect for balancing the richness.

And on top of that, a trio of house-made kimchi! Gat kimchi (mustard-leaf kimchi), chonggak kimchi (young-radish kimchi), and green-onion kimchi. It was my first time trying green-onion kimchi; it was similar to the scallion kimchi I usually eat, yet had a different savory depth. These nicely fermented, sour kimchis were side dishes that paired wonderfully with the gopchang and daechang.

A soft steamed egg came as a complimentary side, too. Unlike the fluffy, puffed-up steamed egg, this one had an entirely silky texture. 😍

My daughter put on her apron and was all set to properly dig into the gopchang and daechang! 😋

The Korean beef gopchang and daechang before cooking. At first, the portion looked small.

Once we cut up the daechang, though, there were plenty of vegetables as well, so it was enough for two. The daechang was tender and nutty, while the gopchang was deliciously full of rich filling. (Watch the roof of your mouth with hot gopchang! 😅) They went well with the rice cakes and vegetables, too. I totally agree that this is a great spot for beef intestines in Bangi-dong. 👍

This is the kkakdugi pickled-garlic rice. It looked mouthwatering just sitting there. It had lots of minced garlic, and the fermented kkakdugi gave it a slight tang. Overall, the food did lean tangy. That must be this place's own trick for cutting through the richness, right? It paired well with the rich beef gopchang and daechang.

Mixed kkakdugi pickled-garlic rice

After mixing, it looked like radish-salad bibimbap. A spoonful of kkakdugi rice is a great match between bites of rich gopchang and daechang. Delicious beef intestines, tangy minari sauce, house-made kimchi, and kkakdugi rice—what a dream combination.

There is plenty to do nearby, including Lotte World Mall, Lotte World, Lotte Tower, and Seokchon Lake, so it would be perfect to play all day and finish with beef intestines in Bangi-dong for dinner~ 😄 The day we went, there were all kinds of guests too: friends, couples, and families.
