Seolleung beef restaurant for solo mini-brazier sirloin: Gyuen Dang

In short

Gyuen Dang Seolleung Branch is a gyukatsu (Japanese-style beef cutlet) restaurant on the second floor of a building about a 3-minute walk from Seolleung Station Exit 1 in Gangnam, Seoul. At the solo-friendly bar table, the writer grilled sirloin gyukatsu on a mini brazier and added hambagu omurice, and Gyuen Dang stays open with no break time even on weekends. An easy, low-pressure pick for a day when you want beef on your own.

My favorite Gyuen Dang opened not in Gangnam, not in Yeoksam, but in Seolleung!!! There was no way I wasn't going to check it out~!

When you want to eat meat alone but solo Korean BBQ places feel like too much pressure, this is a great solo-dining meat spot near Seolleung Station. And when you want to grill slowly at your own pace on your own little brazier without worrying about anyone else, gyukatsu is just perfect ෆ ෆ ෆ

Where is Gyuen Dang Seolleung Branch, and what are its hours?

Newly opened on the 2nd floor at 26 Seolleung-ro 86-gil, Gangnam-gu, Seoul, Gyuen Dang Seolleung Branch is about a 3-minute walk from Seolleung Station Exit 1, so it's an easy-to-reach gyukatsu spot near Seolleung. Weekday hours run from 11am to 9:30pm, and on weekends it's open from 11:30am to 10pm with no break time.

On weekends, I sometimes sleep in and wake up wanting to eat, only to find I've hit the restaurant's break time and can't get a proper meal. Gyuen Dang Seolleung Branch has no weekend break time, so it's fine to visit late. Both Naver Reservation and Catch Table reservations are available, so if you're planning to avoid the wait during peak hours, booking ahead is a good idea :)

The bar table for solo diners and the mood inside Gyuen Dang

Gyuen Dang Seolleung Branch's space was roughly divided into three areas — a bar table perfect for solo dining, plus 2-seat and 4-seat tables, and even high chairs, making it a great gyukatsu spot near Seolleung to visit with a baby too. I sat in this section, and by evening one side of the restaurant was nearly full with customers~

What's on the Gyuen Dang menu?

You can check the menu via QR code, and there's also a separate physical menu for easy browsing when ordering. Besides gyukatsu, there's omurice, rice bowls, curry, udon, tempura, and more, so it's a good pick even with friends who aren't big meat eaters — everyone can order what they like.

Also, if you take part in the review event, you get a mini okonomiyaki, which makes a nice side dish to share :)

Sirloin gyukatsu vs. tenderloin: which is better?

I ordered the sirloin gyukatsu, which came with rice, miso soup, salad, pickled radish, tonkatsu sauce, salt, and wasabi as standard. I've had both tenderloin and sirloin here, and personally, the sirloin was tender and delicious enough that I barely noticed a difference from the tenderloin.

Price-wise, it's easier on the wallet than tenderloin, so I was happy with both the taste and the price — if you're new to gyukatsu, starting with sirloin won't disappoint you at all!

How to grill sirloin gyukatsu on the mini brazier

At first, I put two pieces of meat on the heated brazier plate without butter to taste the meat's natural flavor, but since the plate wasn't oiled, it scorched more easily than I expected. The staff kindly swapped out the plate for me — the plain flavor was good, but I'd recommend grilling with butter on top.

I added butter little by little, about a quarter pat at a time — the default amount of butter is generous, and you can add more for ₩1,000 if you need it. Even after grilling for quite a while, the inside stayed really tender, and the coating was thin and crispy — one of the reasons I keep coming back to Gyuen Dang :)

Sesame-dressing salad and spicy pickled radish sides

The sesame dressing salad that comes out before the meat is grilled is great to nibble on while you wait, and also pairs well with the gyukatsu once you start eating.

The spicy, crunchy pickled radish cleanses your palate between bites and makes the meal even more enjoyable — honestly, this radish alone was so good I wouldn't have missed any other side dish haha

Hambagu omurice and brie cheese omurice at Gyuen Dang

Gyuen Dang is also a great Seoul omurice spot, with tasty omurice right near Seolleung Station :) bb It's the same price as Ttangttangdarak's omurice, but personally I found Gyuen Dang's omurice thicker and more generous in portion, so more satisfying.

A plate of Gyuen Dang's hambagu omurice
Hambagu omurice topped with demi-glace sauce

Last time I tried the brie cheese omurice, and today I went with the hambagu omurice. The brie cheese omurice comes with a whole thick slab of brie on top of the rice, giving you that rich, distinctive brie flavor with a sweet-and-salty combo, while the hambagu omurice has a deep, concentrated meaty richness — good to choose between depending on your mood!

Demi-glace sauce also comes on the side, so you can pour on as much as you like.

Ramune cider-soda flavored drink

They also had a ramune cider-soda flavor I hadn't seen before — if you like carbonated drinks, it's worth ordering to share alongside your meal!

Deodorizer and dental floss placed at the register

Lastly, near the register there was deodorizer and dental floss ready, which was handy for freshening up before heading out.

Is Gyuen Dang Seolleung Branch worth a second visit?

I've had gyukatsu in Japan and tried a few of the famous gyukatsu spots in Seoul, and personally, Gyuen Dang suits my taste the best. Of course everyone's taste is different so this is a purely subjective review, but if you like gyukatsu, this gyukatsu spot near Seolleung is worth a visit :)
