Three drinks compared at a Gangneung roastery café: Coffee Dripper

While traveling around Gangneung, I stopped by a hand-drip roastery café where you can really taste the depth of the beans in a calm, quiet atmosphere. That's Coffee Dripper, a place that caught my eye for its carefully brewed drip coffee and inventive signature lattes. The drinks were clean and satisfying all around — here's a rundown of my recent visit!

Where is Coffee Dripper in Chodang-dong, and what does it look like?

Coffee Dripper is located at 229-4 Nanseolheon-ro, 1st floor, Gangneung, Gangwon, South Korea. It sits deep in an alley in the heart of the Chodang-dong commercial area, within walking distance of the Heo Gyun and Heo Nanseolheon Memorial Park, giving off a quiet, unhurried vibe.

There's a generously sized parking space right beside the shop, so parking is easy. Even if you drive, you can walk in without worrying about finding a spot.

The exterior is done up in a clean wood-and-modern look with a lot of atmosphere, so it's easy to spot from a distance. The tidy garden-style landscaping around the entrance and the outdoor table area made the place pretty even before stepping inside.

Inside Coffee Dripper: seating and atmosphere

Once you open the door and step inside Coffee Dripper, you're greeted by the deep aroma of roasting beans and a cozy space created by the warm wood interior.

Sunlight pouring in through the windows and the greenish sky visible through the floor-to-ceiling glass make it a great environment for quietly enjoying a leisurely cup of hand-drip coffee.

The tables are spaced comfortably apart too, which makes it a great spot to sit and chat without feeling cramped.

On the way to the restroom, there's a dedicated roasting area on one side of the shop, and just seeing it gave off a real sense of the café's expertise as a proper coffee specialist.

I think a clean restroom is an important part of visiting any café or restaurant, and the tidy, well-kept restroom here was another plus.

How the three drinks at Coffee Dripper tasted

We ordered the Dripper house blend coffee (iced), brewed from the café's signature house beans, the signature cone choco latte, and the forêt noire choco latte, known for its impressively heavy sweetness.

I tried the cone choco latte, which promised a nutty-and-sweet combination. The rich, heavy chocolate base paired with a nutty, crunchy cone that was really delicious. The latte itself was very smooth with deep flavor, making it a great match for the cone.

I tasted the carefully brewed iced Dripper house blend drip coffee. From the first sip, it had none of that heavy, flat aftertaste — just a fresh, clean expression of the beans' natural notes.

With a gentle, not-too-sharp acidity and a nutty, subtly sweet balance filling the mouth cleanly, a smooth aftertaste lingered long after swallowing, giving a perfectly refreshing finish — my favorite drip coffee of the three.

Forêt noire choco latte

The last drink I tried, the forêt noire choco latte, stood out for its rich, luxurious dark chocolate flavor. Like a forêt noire cake reimagined as a drink, soft cream and heavy chocolate came together with a subtle texture underneath, delivering a satisfying sweetness that washed away fatigue.

Is Coffee Dripper worth a stop in Gangneung?

Coffee Dripper let me enjoy high-quality hand-drip coffee and sophisticated, original latte menus in the quiet atmosphere of Chodang-dong. Between the friendly barista's service, the cozy and hygienic interior, and the excellent quality of the Dripper house blend, I was already thinking about coming back.

If you're out and about in Chodang-dong, Gangneung, and want a proper cup of coffee or a special dessert drink, or if you're looking for an atmospheric Gangneung café, give Coffee Dripper a visit. I'd recommend it as a Gangneung café with genuinely good coffee.
