Bundang Jungang Park lunch at kalguksu restaurant Myeongyeok Sunae
In short
Myeongyeok Bundang Sunae is a kalguksu (knife-cut noodle soup) and naengmyeon (cold noodle) restaurant in Sunae-dong, Seongnam, Gyeonggi. After a Sunday walk along the red spider lily path in Bundang Jungang Park, a couple ordered the new half-chicken kalguksu (11,900 won), meat-bomb mul-naengmyeon with chicken tenderloin katsu (16,900 won) and galbi mandu (4 pieces), then swapped plates halfway through. Tossing the noodles and chicken in the perilla oil sauce turned out to be the heart of the half-chicken kalguksu at Myeongyeok.

After walking the red spider lily path in Bundang Jungang Park, we wanted kalguksu and naengmyeon in Bundang, so we checked out this lunch spot, Myeongyeok.

A new chicken kalguksu on the menu at Myeongyeok

The store entrance.

There's a big standing sign announcing a new chicken kalguksu menu. My husband, who prefers warm broth even in the heat, went for the half-chicken kalguksu to get his full dose of nutrition, while I, a naengmyeon person by nature, went for something cool. It was a bit hot out today...

We arrived right at lunchtime, so it was busy with customers. Luckily we got a window seat.

Ordering was easy with the table-order system.

Our order: half-chicken kalguksu ×1 (₩11,900), meat-bomb mul-naengmyeon + chicken tenderloin katsu (2pcs) (₩16,900), galbi mandu (4pcs). While waiting...

How to eat the chicken kalguksu, and a word on the kimchi
On the table at Myeongyeok there's a card explaining how to best enjoy the chicken kalguksu, so I gave it a read.
- First taste the deep, clean chicken broth.
- Pair the kalguksu with kimchi.
- Mix the noodles into the perilla oil sauce for a nutty finish.
- Finish by pouring the leftover broth over the Suhyangmi-blended rice.

The kimchi looks delicious just to look at, and it has a story behind it: 1. Cabbage they grow themselves is carefully trimmed and mixed with good seasoning. 2. It's prepared fresh every day to preserve its crunchy texture and natural cabbage flavor. 3. Each plate of Myeongyeok's kimchi carries that freshness and care, set right on the table.
At the self-serve bar, rice blended with Suhyangmi adds a subtle aroma and deep flavor, with a moist, chewy texture. Ah — don't go hunting for plates! Just look up. They're on the shelf above. Once you've found a plate, help yourself to as many side dishes as you like.
The full lunch spread, and why the couple swapped dishes

A gorgeous full lunch spread. The moment my husband saw the meat-bomb mul-naengmyeon, he suddenly suggested we swap dishes — I guess there was just too much meat. It really was a meat bomb.

So my husband ended up with the meat-bomb mul-naengmyeon, and I got the half-chicken kalguksu, forced into some hearty nourishment!
Craving warm broth? Myeongyeok's new half-chicken kalguksu

Myeongyeok's half-chicken kalguksu (₩11,900) is a knife-cut noodle soup generously topped with half a soft-boiled chicken. With a rich, deep chicken broth and chewy noodles, it's a hearty, warming bowl.
A perilla oil sauce comes with the half-chicken kalguksu. They explained again that dipping the noodles into the perilla oil makes for a real delicacy.

First try the broth, chicken, and noodles on their own, then mix the kalguksu and chicken into the perilla oil — the odd but wonderful pairing of chicken and noodles with that nutty perilla aroma really lifts the flavor. If you dip the noodles in perilla oil from the very start, you'll end up dipping every bite that way, so taste the broth, meat, and noodles first, then dip. If you're ever craving a simple, warm meal for some quick nourishment, how about Myeongyeok, soon to be known as a Bundang kalguksu spot?
Meat-bomb mul-naengmyeon with chicken tenderloin katsu: the combo to order

The meat-bomb mul-naengmyeon + chicken tenderloin katsu (2pcs) is ₩16,900. It's a hearty combo of cool, meat-loaded mul-naengmyeon with crispy chicken tenderloin katsu (2pcs) — a menu my husband loved. It really was a meat bomb. The deep broth flavor, tender meat, and chewy noodles came together for a refreshing lunch. And on top of that came...

...the chicken tenderloin katsu (2pcs) set!

Crispy outside, tender inside, perfectly bite-sized chicken tenderloin katsu, and

...the nostalgic self-assembled salad bread.

We enjoyed the story-filled, appetizing kimchi along with the self-serve side dishes — a great meal. We were so full the rice got automatically skipped.

Once we cut into the galbi mandu (4pcs), it felt like our stomachs got even fuller. A nice, savory way to cleanse the palate. The once-loaded table ended up completely cleared.
Final verdict on Myeongyeok Bundang Sunae, a Bundang kalguksu restaurant
- Along with Myeongyeok's famous signature naengmyeon, there's also chicken kalguksu and half-chicken kalguksu, good for nourishment in any season.
- The plump chicken katsu made with chicken breast and tenderloin, crispy outside and juicy inside, pairs well with both naengmyeon and kalguksu.
- At lunchtime it's great for office workers and solo diners; in the evenings or on holidays, it looks like a good, easy meal for family outings with kids before heading home.
- Seasonal menus include a hot chicken jjamppong in winter and cool naengmyeon in summer at Myeongyeok.
We spent the morning walking the red spider lily path where the flowers were blooming beautifully in Bundang Jungang Park, then went looking for a good lunch spot and found Myeongyeok. Parking was convenient, and the staff were super friendly. I'd recommend Myeongyeok Bundang Sunae, a Bundang kalguksu restaurant, for a warm bowl of half-chicken kalguksu or a hearty meat-bomb mul-naengmyeon.
