It was such a happy day—I finally got the hair refresh I’d been putting off and putting off, haha. I’ve been so busy with one thing and another lately that I hadn’t paid any attention to my hair at all. So I made up my mind, booked a relaxed Monday-afternoon appointment, and headed out for a little change of mood!

And the amazing part is that the building’s parking garage goes down to B3, so there is loads of parking. Gangnam and Hannam are famously difficult places to park, but there was zero parking stress here, which I loved.

A comfortable, quiet salon atmosphere

I booked for 2:30 p.m. on Monday and arrived at the salon earlier than expected.

I sat in the waiting area for a little while, then we started right on time.

While waiting, I had a chance to look around slowly, and first of all, it was spacious! Huge windows filled the space, so the natural light was fantastic and it never felt stuffy.

At most hair salons, the sharp smell of perm solution or dye can give you a headache, but strangely, there was none of that chemical smell here. I found out this Yongsan hair salon offers not only hair design but scalp clinics and scalp micropigmentation (SMP), too, so perhaps that’s why the environment was so pleasant. At other salons, it’s so common for them to glance at the one photo you brought, say, “Okay, we’ll do this,” and start cutting right away, isn’t it? But Lee Hyun carefully analyzed the condition of my hair, my face shape, and even the shape of my head.

Look at the state of my messy hairㅠㅠ I have especially thick hair, so I always get a lot of it thinned out. Lee Hyun explained the professional principles of how to cut it so it would feel light near the scalp while the outside would not look flyaway or messy.

A transparent process and thoughtful service

What I loved most was that they transparently explained exactly what they were doing to my hair throughout the appointment! Lee Hyun told me why my hair absolutely needed the treatment process, and what style would suit me best depending on my hair texture and degree of curl. It wasn’t just getting my hair done—they shared so much professional knowledge about the scalp and hair itself, which was really new and interesting.

Their effort to communicate by revealing why every step was necessary and making sure the customer understood really stood out. It made me feel so strongly that I was receiving properly tailored care just for me. I think that kind of attention may be the secret to why this salon is so popular among Hannam hair salons.

Also, Lee Hyun’s personality fit mine so perfectly that I felt comfortable. Some salons talk to you so much that it drains your energy, while others are so silent that it becomes awkward, right? But Lee Hyun did not make excessive conversation feel burdensome, nor were they too quiet, so it was truly comfortable, haha. We could chat naturally and comfortably, like close friends who had known each other forever, and I was never bored for a second.

The assistants who helped were so kind that I hardly knew what to do with myself. Once seated, you can choose a drink through a QR code, and I chose something cold from the tea and coffee options. After some time, they noticed all the ice had melted and brought it back with fresh ice before I even said anythingㅠㅠ While I was waiting with the perm neutralizer on, a staff member quietly moved my drink to the side where it would be easier to reach, so I could move my arms comfortably. I was completely touched by every one of those thoughtful little touches.

A texture cut I loved before the perm even began

Before the perm began in earnest, we started with the essential cut. But seriously, the amazing thing was that I already loved the shape so, so much with just the cut, before even getting the perm!

My hair is thick and rather coarse, so one wrong cut and I immediately look like a triangle kimbap (seaweed rice roll). But the texture work was so refined that I started developing endless trust in Lee Hyun right then. The style I had in mind when I came in was a natural-looking medium-length layered perm—and Lee Hyun said they specialized in medium-length layered designs and sounded so confident that I stopped worrying. I’m someone who has never asked for a hair salon business card first in my life, but this time I confidently picked one up on my way out, haha. I was so happy and excited because I felt I had finally met a designer whose sensibility matched mine and whose skills were great, too.

But here’s the funny part: everyone else’s business cards were displayed at the counter, but Designer Lee Hyun’s cards alone were completely gone! I could really feel how popular Lee Hyun must be when so many guests had taken every card. I happened to meet Lee Hyun when I visited through this wonderful opportunity, but I loved the result so completely that I want to see only Lee Hyun whenever I need my hair done from now on.
