Seongsu Japanese restaurant for brie omelet rice: Gyuen Dang

After work on a weekday, I visited Gyuen Dang Seongsu Main Branch (규엔당 성수본점) with someone I know! I found it while looking for a good gyukatsu (Japanese beef cutlet) place in Seongsu, and I was even more curious because there were so many different dishes to try.

A Weekday Evening Visit and Opening Hours

I made a reservation before visiting, and there were seats available since it was a weekday evening. Still, more people than I expected were dining there. I’ll write in detail about the food and atmosphere at Gyuen Dang Seongsu Main Branch, based on my own visit :)

If you are planning a weekday evening visit, it is best to arrive after the break time ends at 5 p.m. I went after work, and there were quite a few people even in the evening, so making a reservation would be a good idea!

Getting There from Seongsu Station and Parking

This Seongsu gyukatsu restaurant is a four-minute walk from Exit 3 of Seongsu Station, so it was ideal for public transportation. It is tucked into an atmospheric alley, making it nice to look around the neighborhood before stopping by.

Gyuen Dang Seongsu Main Branch is on the second floor of the building, with large signage on the first floor too, so it was not difficult to find even on my first visit. Since it is in an alley, there is no dedicated parking. I drove and bought a parking pass through a parking app to park nearby. If you plan to drive, check parking options in advance!

The Second-Floor Entrance and Exterior

When you go up to the second floor, you will see the entrance.

The cute illustrations and warm lighting caught my eye. It was my first time there, but the sign was easy to spot and the atmosphere was lovely, so I was excited before even going in, haha.

Following the outside stairs leads to the Gyuen Dang Seongsu entrance. Its Japanese restaurant-style exterior suited the atmosphere of the alley nicely.

An Interior That Worked Well for Dates and Group Meals

The interior of this Seongsu gyukatsu restaurant had warm lighting and a clean atmosphere overall. It felt orderly and comfortable for a meal, and it was also nice for chatting with my companion while we ate.

For anyone looking for a Japanese restaurant for a Seongsu date, this was a place where you could enjoy the atmosphere too. The tables were not packed too closely together, and the space felt easygoing for two people or a larger group. When I visited, there was a mix of couples and people dining with friends.

From Tenderloin Gyukatsu to Rice Bowls: What We Ordered

Gyuen Dang Seongsu Main Branch had a wide selection beyond its signature tenderloin gyukatsu, including omurice, rice bowls, and side dishes.

With so many dishes, it seemed better to order several and share rather than choose just one. After some deliberation, we ordered tenderloin gyukatsu, brie cheese omurice, and a steki rice bowl. We wanted to taste a little of several dishes, and it turned out to be a great choice, haha.

We could pick up spoons and chopsticks beside the table, and the banchan (Korean side dishes) came with the food. The neatly prepared table setting made even the wait for our food pleasant.

Tenderloin Gyukatsu Grilled Right at the Table

The dish I was looking forward to most was, of course, the tenderloin gyukatsu. Since you grill it yourself, I was excited as soon as it arrived. I really liked being able to cook it on the little brazier to exactly the doneness I wanted.

Gyuen Dang Seongsu Main Branch also serves butter with it, which adds a rich aroma while you grill.

It was crisp on the outside and tender inside, so I could see why so many people come here. Perhaps because it was tenderloin, it was not tough at all, and I loved how moist and soft it was.

It was so good that it felt like the classic must-order dish, haha. The flame went out midway through, but a staff member noticed right away and replaced it. Thanks to that, we could keep grilling it warm until the end.

What Did the Brie Cheese Omurice Taste Like?

Next was the dish I was especially curious about: brie cheese omurice. At first, I wondered what the combination of omurice and brie cheese would taste like.

There was brie cheese between the egg and rice, so it felt different from ordinary omurice.

The soft egg and cheese came together to add a rich flavor, and they paired better than I expected. It would be a nice choice when you want to try a combination that differs from your usual meal. Of everything we ate at Gyuen Dang Seongsu, this was the most unusual dish, haha.

A Satisfying Steki Rice Bowl

The dish I ordered was the steki rice bowl. The combination of tender steak and rice made for a filling meal.

The meat was not tough, and it went very well with the rice.

Each dish had its own appeal, and I was glad we ordered several things to share.

Japanese Food in Seongsu That Was Great for Sharing

Gyuen Dang Seongsu Main Branch was a nice place for a hearty meal in a clean atmosphere. Ordering several dishes and sharing them let us compare and enjoy the appeal of each one, which I really liked. Since there were quite a few diners even on a weekday evening, I think it would be best to reserve ahead if several people are visiting. Next time, I would like to try dishes I did not get to have this time, haha.
