Seongsu ramen restaurant with tom yum tomato ramen: Menya Pomo

In short

Menya Pomo Seongsu Branch is a ramen restaurant near Seongsu Station in Seongdong, Seoul, serving tomato-based ramen. I alternated between tom yum tomato ramen and cheese tomato ramen, then added a tonkatsu set meal that was crispier than expected. Verdict: a memorable choice for a different kind of Seongsu meal.

While looking for lunch in Seongsu-dong, I found a slightly different ramen spot. It was Menya Pomo Seongsu Branch (멘야포모 성수점), close to Seongsu Station. Rather than ordinary ramen, this is a place where you can try tomato-based ramen in a range of styles.

Menya Pomo Seongsu Branch is about a three- to four-minute walk from Exit 4 of Seongsu Station, so it is quite easy to reach. It is on Yeonmujang-gil, where there are lots of cafés and select shops around, making it a nice stop in the middle of a Seongsu outing or date.

Inside, the overall mood is neat and calm, with lots of wood tones. There are tables for two and larger groups, plus a separate bar counter for solo guests along one side. Each solo seat even has its own ordering tablet, which is honestly great for anyone eating alone. Highly recommended for nearby office workers having lunch solo, or anyone who wants a quiet meal alone in busy Seongsu!

Choosing tomato ramen on the tablet

You order using the tablet at your table. Menya Pomo's biggest feature is its wide range of tomato-based ramen. Beyond the standard tomato ramen, there are plenty of choices depending on your taste, and you can choose the spice level too.

Here are the five best-selling dishes! Ramen is available à la carte or as a set with sides and drinks, so it seemed especially useful for two people who want to order several things and share.

There is a self-service bar on one side of the restaurant, where you can take water and side dishes as needed. The pickled cabbage was sweet, crunchy, and tasty. Rice refills are unlimited~~~

The thoughtful touch of serving Coke in a glass full of ice 👍🏻

That day, I ordered three things: tom yum tomato ramen, cheese tomato ramen, and the tonkatsu set meal. I chose level 1 for both ramen, about as spicy as Shin Ramyun. It was not too spicy, just pleasantly warming—perfect for enjoying the broth.

How rich is the cheese tomato ramen?

The cheese tomato ramen was thick, rich, and savory. Even the process of the snow cheese on top slowly melting into the hot broth looked delicious. At first, the tomato's distinct tang comes through fairly clearly, but as the cheese melts, the broth becomes smoother and more substantial.

It is even better with extra garlic!!!

Especially when you mix the noodles thoroughly into the broth, the melted cheese clings tightly to them and creates a wonderfully thick texture. For a moment while eating, I was confused whether this was ramen or pasta. Still, it is not overwhelmingly cheesy; the tomato's freshness remains, which keeps it from becoming too rich.

The tom yum tomato ramen I remembered most

Of the three, the tom yum tomato ramen was personally the most impressive. I like tom yum dishes and have had them several times in Thailand too, and this tom yum ramen captured the aromatics better than I expected.

What I especially liked was how the distinctive aroma of lemongrass rose right up with the first bite. I wondered if the tomato acidity and tom yum spices might make it too sour, but the two flavors actually came together naturally. This is the first dish I would recommend to anyone who likes tom yum goong or Thai food.

They are both tomato ramen, but their impressions are so different that if you visit as a pair, I recommend ordering one of each and alternating bites. We took a bite of tom yum, then a bite of cheese, and the spicy, aromatic flavor and the thick, savory flavor made each other taste even better.

The tonkatsu set meal exceeded expectations

I ordered the tonkatsu set meal because ramen alone felt a little incomplete. Since tomato ramen is clearly the main event here, I did not expect much from the tonkatsu—but it was so good.

The breading was not soggy and shattered crisply when I bit into it, while the meat inside was not dry. It was great to pick up a piece between bites of ramen.

When you order it as a set, it is not just tonkatsu: it comes with rice, tomato broth, and vegetables, making it filling enough as a complete meal. Ordering the tom yum tomato ramen, cheese tomato ramen, and tonkatsu set gives you tangy and aromatic flavors, thick and savory flavors, and a crisp texture, so the combination is better than expected. I thought this would only be a place with good tomato ramen, but the tonkatsu was good too, which made me happy^^ Praise to myself for ordering several dishes~~

There are so many good restaurants in Seongsu-dong, but similar types of dishes can start to repeat. Menya Pomo stood out because tomato ramen gives it such a clear identity. Most of all, it is delicious~~~ The location, atmosphere, prices, and easy ordering all felt nicely balanced, so I recommend it if you are looking for somewhere to eat in Seongsu-dong! Next time I am in Seongsu, I want to try another kind of ramen too.
