I stayed at Kensington Seorak Beach on this trip to Goseong. I wanted fresh sashimi for dinner, so I picked up a mixed platter to go from Bongpo Hoega, a raw fish restaurant in Goseong. If you're looking around the Bongpo Port raw fish center for takeout, or searching for good food near Kensington Seorak Beach in Goseong, here's my review of the medium mixed sashimi platter.
Where is Bongpo Hoega, and how far is it from Kensington Seorak Beach?

Bongpo Hoega is a raw fish restaurant near Bongpo Port. Being right by the harbor, there are plenty of other sashimi restaurants around, plus lots of accommodation nearby — Wyndham Hotel, Kensington Seorak Beach, Ocean to You Resort, and more. Bongpo Hoega has a parking lot right in front of the store, so it was convenient even if you drive.

Since it's a bit of a drive out at a travel destination, it's worth stopping by if you're looking for sashimi restaurants or takeout spots around Bongpo Port from Goseong. Most of all, it was convenient to pick up dinner while staying at Kensington Seorak Beach. Even though it was a Monday evening, plenty of families were coming in to eat.
What comes in Bongpo Hoega's medium mixed sashimi takeout
Bongpo Hoega medium mixed sashimi platter, to go

I ordered the medium mixed sashimi platter. The fish included flounder, rockfish, flatfish, and pufferfish — seasonal fish that can vary depending on the time of year and price. I liked that the pricing and composition for the mixed platters were clearly posted, so I didn't feel like I'd get ripped off.

My mom and I ate together and it was plenty. Even though it's takeout, they didn't just pack the sashimi — they included three cooked shrimp, aged kimchi (mukeunji), lettuce wraps, peppers, and garlic so we could eat a full meal, plus a whole set of sauces: soy sauce, wasabi, ssamjang, and chojang.

When you pack sashimi from Jungang Market, you often only get the fish itself, so you have to prep sides and sauces yourself at the accommodation... At Bongpo Hoega, they included everything, so it was easy to set the table as soon as we got to the room. The sashimi had a nice firm, chewy texture, and every kind we tried was delicious.
How to eat the sashimi: ssamjang, wrap greens and seasoned seaweed

I mixed wasabi into the soy sauce for dipping, and also tried the ssamjang and chojang to my taste. The ssamjang especially!!! It was totally different from store-bought ssamjang — savory with a spicy-sweet kick.

It paired well with the sashimi, and the peppers and garlic they packed went nicely alongside too. Putting a piece of sashimi on a lettuce leaf with ssamjang and garlic was a great way to eat it. We'd also brought our own seasoned seaweed (jomi-gim), so we tried wrapping the sashimi in it. The slightly fatty red fish went on top of the seasoned seaweed, dipped in soy sauce and wasabi — and that combo worked surprisingly well. The texture reminded me of eating yellowtail, and it matched nicely with the savory seaweed, soy sauce, and wasabi.
Eating sashimi back at the hotel: how well the ice pack worked

Even the same sashimi felt different dipped plain in soy sauce versus wrapped in seaweed, which made it easy to enjoy comfortably while watching TV in the room. When the sashimi started feeling a bit repetitive, wrapping it in the aged kimchi was also good. Alternating between soy sauce and wasabi, ssamjang with veggies, seasoned seaweed, and aged kimchi, we somehow finished the whole medium mixed sashimi platter from Bongpo Hoega haha. They also packed an ice pack underneath the sashimi, so it stayed cold the entire time we were eating at the hotel. Being able to eat it cold down to the last piece was really satisfying for a takeout sashimi review from a Goseong raw fish restaurant.
Since we were staying at Kensington Seorak Beach, I tried getting sashimi to go from a restaurant near Bongpo Port in Goseong. If you're looking for a place to easily pick up sashimi takeout for your accommodation, try the mixed platter from Bongpo Hoega. Along with the sashimi itself, they packed shrimp, aged kimchi, lettuce wraps, and all kinds of sauces — plenty for two people to eat.
